THE LAST OF US PART 2 (2020) | [ALL CUTSCENES - PART 1!!] | "WHO ARE YOU?"

We're back with another trip to TLOU universe and oh boy, am I excited to be here. I heard a lot of bad things about this game and from the first part here for your lovely eyes, I can see why some would hate it, not me though. I explain as we go along that it was easy for me (personally) to see the direction this is and was going in. I still maybe wrong about the ending but I'm 80% confident in my prediction.

Sometimes when I record these long play/watch sessions, the 2 hours or sometimes 3 really feels like 3 or longer! This game... felt like an hour, if that. I could have gone on watching for longer, easily!!

I hope you enjoy the video guys and once again, thank you for hanging out with me. I really feel like I'm able to be me in these videos and that's thanks to you, YES, you reading this now. It's nice to chat even though when I'm doing it live, you're a little quiet ;)

Kai

P.S. I've upgraded the videos going forward to 4K 60fps. Enjoy the better gaming experience!

Jordan Bevan

ToTo Super Game!

I've literally just finished recording it. I'll edit it as soon as I can and get it on here for you guys. Oh boy is all I'm going to say, oh boy.

Kai Zammit

Samee. I'm starving.

Isaac

been a weeeeeekkkkkkkkk. I am dying

ToTo Super Game!

Nobody is forcing you to like it. But complaining that the creator hates the fans of the first game is wild. If he hates us why did so many of us play it and love it? I have issues with the pacing at points. But this is a significantly better game to play and I felt the writing was just as good if not better than the first game.

Richard White

You’re allowed to not like it. But of course ND tried to misdirect with the marketing after the leaks! The game had been spoiled for a huge number of people, it was damage control.

Richard White

How was the marketing deceptive? They showed Ellie singing and talking about wanting to "kill every single one of them" - it seemed pretty clear to me what happens and what would transpire.

Kiera

I liked this game as a piece of media, though imo it drug on (gameplay wise) for a little too long and the ending is unsatisfying. I’m excited to see your take on it!

Dexter Bramlett

You keep asking how anybody didn't see "the writing on the wall." For one I did, but for two that doesn't mean I have to like it. Not to mention the deeply deceptive marketing they did for the game to make you believe it was something it wasn't. There were some pretty big leaks before the game's release and ND did everything they could to suppress and deny the content of them.

Cameron

The irony of this statement is endless.

Cameron

Oh my god you're right. I'm so stupid, I didn't take a single moment to think and ponder to form my opinion. This game is such a misunderstood masterpiece that I was just not enlightened enough to appreciate.

Cameron

When is part 2 of part II comin bruhhh? Gotta see you reaction to the rest

JR Arnold

as a player , I loved the story and think its great, abby is cool , but playing her after events does give the sad gut feeling plus the story itself. it is a painful experience and having to sit there and "play" to unfold more of the story, I understand why people hate it, its not for everyone, but I do still think its a great story. but as a game, it was difficult to continue (I did but I can see why some didn't )

a2nlolkid Boohoo

None of the screaming kids are 'fans'. They're mindless haters who jumped on a bandwagon before the game was even released.

Simon Rockstream

I glad you're enjoying the game) Unlike you, I didn't see many of these things coming (when playing the game/watching movie, I'm trying to be in the moment, not predict what happens 😅), and yeah it was very emotional to see, but I like it) About guitar, yes, you can actually play it, it has access to all (or most of?) chords

Mark

This game gets so many fans riled up, because they wanted a fantasy ending for the characters they fell in love with in the first game. As Kai mentioned, what happens to Joel was kinda written on the wall with the story telling, I was kinda shocked that anyone was surprised by what happened. It’s a post-apocalypse setting, the only way for conflict to arise in a story like this is for important people to die. I think the game tells a great story, albeit a painful one that people are just recently starting to appreciate.

Joel DuBose

It was that confession for me at the beginning. That kind of locked it in. The ending from the first one had a price to pay. In this world, absolutely. Even though we didn't want it which makes it more powerful and I'd say, needed it rather than wanting it.

Kai Zammit

That's awesome to hear, I'll get to it soon!

Kai Zammit

I cant wait for the next part!!!! I neeeed ittt

ToTo Super Game!

The people who “hate the writing,” generally wanted another game with Joel as the hero, thought he either should have triumphed or, as you say a little over one an hour in you thought might have happened, died at the end, sacrificing himself to save Ellie. They wanted a hero’s death for him. Many thought he “deserved” it. And because they didn’t get what they wanted, they kept calling the writing bad. There are also a couple of twists later in the game they objected to, but I don’t want to mention them here because you haven’t got there or haven’t posted it yet. My experience of these games was unusual. I played the first game about a year before the second one came out, so I didn’t have years of expectation and missed most of the marketing campaign. When I finished the first game, I knew there was going to be a sequel but nothing else, so my only expectation for the sequel was that it would be about consequences for what happened at St. Mary and for Joel’s lie to Ellie. They hit that and exceeded it, so as wrenching, sickening and heartbreaking as I found it at times, I was satisfied with it as a solid story. And, yes, as someone who has sometimes shot video myself and learned a little bit about lighting along the way, I was often awestruck at how they used light and framing and sound to tell the story in ways the dialogue never could.

Steve Maxey

But like Sam I think you’re objectively wrong about it being a retcon with one clear point of view. In fact, there is a late game scene that directly contradicts your assertion. What Sam above said is right: it’s clearly all about point of view in a world where there is no clear right and wrong. From the structure of the game to the secondary major and minor conflicts, the game couldn’t be more specific that that is what it’s trying to do.

Steve Maxey

😂 now you're dirty talking! Coming from a photographer, it's got to be good! Thank you for the heads up.

Kai Zammit

Ps I'm particularly excited for you to gush over the lighting in the scars areas :D

Emma Jones

I also love how she sings if i ever were to lose you id surely lose myself at the end to show she realizes she lost herself since he died

David Ropp

When the TLoU 2 promotions were coming to an end towards release me & my coworkers were already preparing ourselves for Joel’s early death due to how little he was promoted lol

MasterRoshi

it wasn't necessarily that we didn't see it coming, before release in the trailers, they made Joel appear in scenes that are later in the game, hiding the fact that he dies early on, was a little cheeky, so seeing those, there was no expectation of loosing him like that.. It was how they did it, as early as they did it. and make us play as our favorite characters killer, as a way to try and see why. nobody cared to play as her, she killed Joel, there was no seeing things her way, we wanted her dead. And even though its Ellies story, hardly playing Joel while he was in the story just added to the dismay of everything. good game/story, sure, the way they went about it, mehh.

Jordan_Sal 413

Okay agree to disagree. You and "everyone you know in person" don't have to weigh in on my opinion.

Cameron

Whoa! I didn't know they had Grounded: Making The Last of Us. I'm going to check that out! I knew about Raising Kratos thanks for sharing that I have something to watch later on

Chandler Norwood

No worries mate, the video is still great and love to hear your insights! What sort of rate are you gonna be putting these out?

kiki

Happy to see you're enjoying it so far :D This is one of my top favorite story games. And Youtube does have the official video documents about the makings of both these games, Grounded: Making the Last of Us. There is also one of God of War called Raising Kratos. Just in case you are interested in watching them by yourself at one point.

HilleriX

You treat us! Been loving the consistent flow of content. It’s much appreciated. Even in dark times or dark days I see a post from you and I have some little light that can take me out of the bad for a while. Thank you 🙏

Jacob Schmohe

love the video this game is amazing the story telling i think is good it makes you think and thats what i think matter most i wanna be looking over my emotions and really put em to a test

Rebecca

i love the writing in this game but i think a big thing is for fans of the game it felt like a slap in the face for joel to be killed in the first 2 hours of gameplay after waiting 7 years to see him again, & in such a brutal way. but the writers have stated that’s intentional, bc they the player to feel the same rage ellie is feeling. his death scene was also sadly leaked just a couple months before release! theres a documentary on Naughty Dog’s youtube about the making of this game that gives so much insight when u are done watching! not sure if that’s something u would watch on the channel but i think its worth the watch on ur own time. cant wait for the rest!!!

tuesday

Loved the video and all the insights. This game is so special to me, always will be. It's always great seeing new people discover it and take on that emotional journey. Damn tho that Take On Me garbling was painful. Highly recommend watching the actual thing, it's on youtube and it's beautiful.

Oran Kurowski

Absolutely loved watching this. Love how astute you are and how much your knowledge of storytelling is enhancing the experience. It adds so much to watching this through as someone who plays the game once or twice a year. I don't want to offer any personal thoughts on themes etc until you're finished, but a small detail that you may find interesting; the song Joel sings and is used as a motif is Future Days by Pearl Jam Can't wait for episode two! This is a joy.

Emma Jones

That scene with Joel was just gut wrenching. I lost a parent at a young age, so this hits very hard every time. And the game just begun. Im looking forward to your takes on the rest of the story. I also can't get rid of being aware of lighting in games ever since im watching your videos. I've always admired it, especially because i love taking pictures in video games, but now im even more aware of how it affects the scene.

Michael

1 I mean these are pretty heavy spoilers lol. 2. The idea that Joel's death means he was wrong and you're wrong for supporting him is your own opinion. I don't think and no one I know in person came to that conclusion we all think he was right for what he did taking Ellie, but actions have consequences. Everyone is a villain is someone else's story if we started all over from Abby's perspective Ellie was be just as hateable. Joel would be a unfathomable monster. I don't blame anyone for not liking the game because of how dark it is, but narratively it makes sense. The world they live in takes a lot from everyone.

Sammxney

This game is definitely long! I couldn’t believe i spent north of 30 hours by the time i reached the halfway point … the relative openness of the world we’re given is what I disliked a bit because of how much you have to do to keep the story flowing. I was hooked and had to spend too much time figuring stuff out just to progress. The physics in this game were a bit of a step up, in my opinion. Death animations are definitely better but something for you to check out are player death animations for both games — specially the ones when you get killed by bloaters :) Definitely looking forward to the next couple of vids!

Raul

yessss nothing going on at work - perfect timing

Dylan

I saw your other comment about it, and honestly, if you're satisfied with it, then keep on going. I think it's good enough, some people who love the game dearly(like me) might just be a little sad you missed out on small character beats but if it's something for you to discover if and when you do play it, that's great. I can go sifting for a good playthrough when I have free time, but if this one feels good, keep it going

Rasknitt

What one would you suggest please? Send a link via DM. Thank you. I actually really liked how this video flowed tbh, I never once got bored and it feels like it's left some game for me to play in my own time. Hopefully that makes sense.

Kai Zammit

I suggest, in the future, asking your patreon members to suggest a channel for a walkthrough for these types of games. Gamerslittleplayground have a horrendous track record lol Anyways, glad you're loving the game. This is probably my favorite game ever, regardless of it's divisiveness.

Rasknitt

*Vague spoiler warning* I never wanted this series to continue past the first game. I felt like that ending was perfectly ambiguous and I knew that any sequel would have to take a firm stance on whether what Joel did was right or wrong. Instead of thoughtfully exploring the complexity of that ending they do everything they can to retcon it into a clear outcome of Joel was wrong and you were wrong for feeling differently. I can go on for days about the choices made in the making of this game that I vehemently disagree with but Abby is at the center of it all. As a character she represents everything wrong with the current culture in storytelling. She embodies all of the likeable traditionally masculine traits while aggressively supplanting the lead male character. She is a massive hypocrite in how she ruthlessly judges everyone else, men especially, for their failings but never reflects on or takes any accountability for her own. People dismiss criticism of this game as simply "oh boo hoo you're just mad your favorite characters were brought down," but it's not that simple. It's so apparent through the choices made surrounding this game, both in the game itself and the deceptive marketing, that the creator hates the fans of the first game. It's not enough to make those characters suffer, they have to lose absolutely everything and have everything they stood for rendered meaningless.

Cameron

Most of the ones I was looking at are around 8 - 9 hours in length for a Game Movie. There maybe more out that are longer but Gamers Little Playground I seem to quite enjoy. I think I mention it in the video, they cover the bulk of the story but also leave meat on the bone so to speak for me to actually play it myself. I hope you can still enjoy the video Kira :D

Kai Zammit

Enjoy it fella!!

Kai Zammit

Yes, you guys deserved the upgrade!

Kai Zammit

Whoever did the footage for this one is going way too fast and missing dialogue. It doesn't seem to be anything essential but it's quite a shoddy video if you're looking for full cutscenes

kiki

4k 60fps videos! Chef's kiss

Jacob Schmohe

Here we go! I'll get to listen to this one at work, I'll be watching it tonight! Thanks for the content!
