Warhammer Helsreach Movie

Since watching the Astartes 2 trailer, I've got a real itch than won't seem to bugger off. I think it's my body and mind telling me I need some more Warhammer in my life.

I had the Helsreach Movie on my list of REACTIONS but are you guys still interested in this? Saying that, is there something else Warhammer 40K I should look at instead? Let me know below...

Tbh I’m sad I’ve not suggested this! The guy who did this has done a real amazing job! You can see how his style progresses and improves in each new episode he did. Helsreach holds a special place in my heart as it is my first book I read to get me into 40K and Grimaldus is a glorious character! Recently came back to the book but listened to the audio version and I could picture this film for every scene again! “Are you as insulted as I am? This is what they send against us?”

Roger. I'll have to look for examples in some projects to help me reinforce the concept. Thanks as always!

Do it for the story. Does the story warrant it? Remember when I talk about Dutch angle, I always say why they're doing it. The character isn't sure about this.... I'd use leading lines for establishing a scene. Where are the characters? What a cool looking place or what do I want the audience to look at? The characters have to go that way, let the audience know that by using "leading lines".

I don’t know enough about warhammer to say any which way or the other. What I CAN say is as a general sci-fi fan it’s always seemed interesting, and I’m down for anything you post rn. So if that’s the journey you wanna take then that’s the journey 🤙

I see! That makes a lot of sense. So it's not just about pretty composition but also keeping interest and leading them somewhere. Cool

One it creates a dynamic image or frame. Gives you layers and it keeps the viewers eye or brain engaged. I say that because their eyes are being guided so the brain is telling them where to look. It also helps with the flow of the film, short or game. All about the flow. It's a bit like when I say you want a mixture of shots. Mids, close ups, wides, extreme close ups and many more. It's all about keeping the flow and the viewer engaged.

I'm always down for whatever you post! Also I am curious about the methodology behind framing your subject and using leading lines in your composition. How important are these and could you mention them in some of your videos if you see them in a project? Thanks!

There is also Death of Hope 20min fan animation set in the horus heresy, it is insanly detailed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9wV2sGlXjY and you have the lord inquistor prologue, which was sadly canceled but its still worth a worth, it was rendered in real time in the crysis engine, which is what star citizen used at a point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU0hixqU2XU the guy that did this returned to GW last year to do a Vignette on War+. Now if you want some retro stuff, here is a "movie which was made by GW, it was a bunch of shorts play at their Games day back in the day. Very low budget but so fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUJcBVcCEGs&t=1504s

I definitely want to jump on that but I'm looking for something I could share with the YouTube channel too. Warhammer+ would be solely for the Patreons. Sounds good though!

Kai Zammit

It's a good movie, but I would also highly recommend subbing to Warhammer+ for 1 month and watch the pariah nexus series, which has become a fan favourite because of its protagonist Sa'kan of the salamanders. Also its sort of sequel series the Tithes which is good. You have have the stand alone hammer and bolter series in which episodes artifacts, plague song which has a lot of body horror and return to cadia which is a horror are probably the best of that series. The guy that did helsreach also did the Blood angels series on warhammer and it was one of their first programs. You can pretty much binge all of the animations within a week.

I never read the book, just watched this interpretation and it is so unlike anything else I’ve ever seen. Would definitely dig Kai’s breakdown of it. Especially with regards to the gradual increase in quality

Grimaldus is one of the best characters in 40K
