Project WIP: "I pRObAbly wOn'T aDd mORe dETaiL tO tHiS"

Yeah, that happened. I could not stop myself. It's in my goddamn genes. Help.

Other than that, I've also manually finetuned the topology, and added UVs. I've just returned from a perilous quest to a shop, and I have about 20 minutes left of my working day, so I guess I won't do any more work now, but to make this post a little bit more interesting, here's a shot of the topology, because why not:

It's not great, not horrible, but it'll do. And generating it has literally saved me a couple of hours, so that's nice. Also here's a shot of the UV layout, because also why not:

Not the best one either, but it does the job. And it really doesn't matter that much. Or so I have to keep telling myself if I don't want to spend two months on this whole thing. :^)

So the next step is texturing. I'll probably use my usual methods, so that you can see how the process goes for my characters. The only difference is that this model won't get an SSS shader (SubSurface Scattering; like with flesh translucency, or wax), because this fish is pretty thick-skinned, and I honestly don't think the effect is even relevant here. Also a diffuse shader is much faster to render, and much easier to texture and set up, so that's nice too.

I honestly can't remember how long it took me to do today's work. Maybe 4-5 hours. So that's like 6-7 hours in total. Super good score so far! The nice thing about this fish is that I don't have to do a lot of planning or detailing. I mean, the mouth doesn't even open. It's a solid lump. This approach insanely speeds up the process. This isn't the case for an actual character. :^) There's a lot more elements, a lot more details, including ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) internal ones ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) and I need to think about many scenarios in which the character may be used. That also involves having to do a fully controlled topology so that every pose may work properly. A whale doesn't require that kind of flexibility, and even if it did, this one is just a background element. XD But since I'm so damn proud of how it's turning out, I'm totally using two or maybe even three in the piece. >:[
