2023-12-28 08:29:51 +0000 UTCAnd for what it’s worth, I’m an American but the movie (and the Medal of Honor video) is at least as much about the universal experience of such a complicated horrifying experience. The people actually risking themselves on any side have little choice and spend their lives in a world view painting the other as enemy, so (for my view only) whether or not the cause they fought for was objectively good or bad their consciously chosen sacrifices and/or death is worth remembering.

2023-12-19 06:23:51 +0000 UTCPutting this here only for if you are interested- there is a video that’s floated around of the first (and as far as I’ve seen only) case of earning a Medal of Honor that has released video start to finish. The Medal of Honor being the highest military award given in the US and was also awarded to Lieutenant Michael Murphy in this incident (as it almost always is) given posthumously. If you are curious about an actual recording of a comparable situation, this is as close as you’ll get, though it’s tough to watch but well explained with footage from surveillance overhead as the Medal of Honor recipient fought.
