Aak Daar Dovah, Fent Zu'u? Ch. 22

Comments

Ironically he is already wearing a favor of hers. He has her dragons horns on his head.

Seto Kyba

Friendship with Dorne? Nah, Dorne is still an independent kingdom here. It would be that way for another 100+ years before there's a marriage pact to "officially" make it part of the seven kingdoms. I think Dorne is playing the long game here and trying to get a dragon rider to their family on their side. If Elira can get some dornish prince to marry Aerea that would be a game changer. Even random nobles from the other side of the world is trying to get into Targ pants so that they can claim their own dragons. Then you have Aerea who is trying to act like she's an expert in politics and is actually getting played by all sides. What makes it even worse is that she on her rebellious phase.

Eternity Smut

Yeah, I understand that being a thing that shows up in some peoples' minds, haha. It's not really a thing in ASOIAF though, in the same way that the horned prince doesn't refer to the devil(which is where many of the beliefs regarding that come from too). For instance, House Baratheon's male knights frequently wear sheared antlers upon their helms in some form or another, but there's no allusion toward them being cuckolds or anything. Not a thing in ES either, as so many groups have horns, so.

Man, that Pentoshi shit really pissed me off, but at least it's a learning experience on the kind of slime that power attracts. And hey, a potentially genuine friendship with the daughter of the Princess of Dorne was certainly both unexpected and welcome. I wonder what Barth and Basil can find out in their research. This story can go in many directions, but I sure hope that the Targaryens getting to learn some sweet sweet arcane magic is in the books. Thanks for the chapter, and I'm hoping Ysmir ruins a few lordly plots by just by existing as he cruises through the tourney, because they sure as hell are plotting. It's a given, especially Rogar that suspicious bastard. It may have been a while, but I still think he's not innocent in the Young Dragon's death.

Ao Black

Eggselent as always. Though the title of "The Horned Prince" does rather sound like they're saying Ysmir is being cuckolded.

John T.

Hopefully you didn't regret giving up the sleep after the fact hahaha.

Procrastination

Next chapter begins with more Ysmir perspective, yep!

Procrastination

We've gotten a LOT of Ysmir lately (or things around him) so we've been due for some other characters to get their moment to shine that doesn't have to do with him specifically. Next chapter starts with more from him too!

Procrastination

Disappointed that this chapter doesn't have the MC more.

Seto Kyba

Yeah, I think a lot of people were approaching the tournament arc in their mind like it would be a sprint, but it's not, by design. The whole tourney is meant to take place over a month (as intended by Alysanne), and most chapters are relatively day to day, with only minor skips between days usually unless there's some major travel or something necessary. It's foreground sometimes, but it's also intended to be a bit background sometimes, too just due to the scale of events. King's Landing has never had an event that would last so long and be so large in its scope/invitation.

Procrastination

Kind of getting bogged down in the tournament arc it seems like. Which is weird cause not a lot of actual tournament scenes so far.

Ceifeiros

The Breton homeland is modeled (in many ways) after stereotypical medieval Europe, which makes it far more like what you'd see in ASOIAF. So I would expect all of the typical behaviors, and there's no on the nose ceremony or special thing regarding adulthood in any of the lore (in most places at least) so presumably it's just much like would have been common. Some cases, people married young, sometimes they married much older. The Altmer arranged their marriages well ahead (and presumably were paired fairly young so things would have happened). In general, Elder Scrolls as a game company keeps their content carefully managed due to the necessity to meet ratings for marketing, but to put it into perspective, one of the most well known female characters of the lore (Barenziah) is kinda infamous for having been involved with a number of figures, and potentially even Tiber Septim in her minority. (Depending on which story becomes the "truth", she was made to have public sex with a khajiit in Riften as part of the thieves guild initiation even.) They change this stuff and put in additional content (and have done so over the years) to soften some of the more rough edges of the content and make it even more palatable and less risky. Basically, Bethesda doesn't dig into the details much but there are examples, because it's one of those things you don't really have to. Presumably, people are still people. You can fight and die as a man in Skyrim barely into your teens though, that has been confirmed, so I would guess it's not special or different for women. This is typically the same measure by which people are recognized as an adult within a culture, but even within the situation there's not always a clear distinction. One person at fifteen might be a dumb brat, and another might have been taking care of their own farm for two years and have a wife. I would model it mostly real-adjacent where it seems to be.

Procrastination

If this was one of the books, I would have audibly groaned when I realized it was an Aerea chapter. I can tell she's setup to be an important character down the line but she's definitely not the reason I read the story. Looking forward to getting more tournament next chapter!

Thanks for the chapter. Earlier than expected but a welcome surprise. Though, not gonna lie, that entire banquet scene was, to me, very uncomfortable to read, after the pentosi guy appeared. I think you did capture Aerea's whole mindset and personality perfectly and that's the problem. I know Planetos as a whole has a... unique, culture but it's usually not presented so nonchalantly "in your face" like that. I think it stuck with me due to the fact that it was from Aerea's own, ignorant, viewpoint, and the whole atmosphere around the interaction being completely casual, and then Rhaena's reaction at the end implying "Do whatever you want I just want you to be happy". Hell, I know in asoiaf it's not just normal but even natural and even expected for things like this to happen, and encouraged, but still... Anyway, what is Ysmir's view on all this is? because from my knowledge, Skyrim's culture is different from asoiaf regarding this issue, at least from what I could find online. Or maybe I'm wrong and the stance in Tamriel vs Asoiaf is exactly the same and just not openly addressed.

Exciting! Thanks for the chapter! I’ve gotten so hyper about this story that I have like a sixth sense for the posting schedule now. Of course, part of it is just paying attention to the gap between chapters, and part of it is blind hope. Very nice to see behind Aerea’s eyes for a bit. That other comment did put a few thoughts in my mind though. I’m sure she’ll be able to hold onto her wits, but if she does panic shit could hit the fan pretty fast, knowing how protective Rhaena is. Nice to see that Sorzo is taking after Ysmir though! Very cute! Or well I hope that’s the case here, and nothing is happening behind the scenes. Nevertheless, may Ysmir tear through the events to come!

Valkryia

*sigh* bye bye sleep, you will have to wait for an hour… I am going to by grumpy in the morning aren’t I? Worth it though Aerea Is going to be all the legitimacy he needs if she reacts to him taking off the helmet in a public place and affirming that he is from Valyria, and him noticing ‘Redgaurd’ style of combat is very promising! The redguard blade masters are most renowned for the the art of the blade, and I bet when he was bored in the realm of knowledge he probably pursued a few scrolls about their art of the blade, perhaps learning a few things to round things up if he liked any particular thing
