Hey Guys, thank you for a fantastic reaction! I feel so special! And, I feel a little guilty -- I need to get back to the gym!
<b>CE3K</b> is one of my favorite movies and one that I had the great fortune to see opening weekend. I liked it so much that I bought the program (a 20 page booklet with large pages and printed on thick, matte paper) for the movie.
Near the end of my rewatch with you guys, I realized that <b>Roy</b> was the only member of the <i>"Invited"</i> to make it to the <i>Red Team</i>. I think maybe the short aliens swarmed Roy at the end because he was the only member on the team who was simpatico with the aliens' subconscious form of communication.
Regarding the different versions, Spielberg never really liked the <b>Theatrical</b> version and always regarded it as a work-in-progress. He didn't have the budget or time to make the release date. After CE3K was a hit, he got an additional $1.5M to make the <b>Special Edition</b> which included new scenes but was also required by studio execs to add a final scene showing Roy <b><i>inside</i></b> the mothership. The idea was to boost the re-release's box office.
In the end, Spielberg was very unhappy with the result and eventually made the <b>Director's Cut</b> which included the best elements of both the <b>Theatrical</b> and <b>Special Edition</b> minus the mothership interior scene. Spielberg said finally, "I never should have shown the inside of the mothership." (The Making of CE3K)
Finally, some alien-movie suggestions:
* Arrival (2016)
* Interstellar (2014)
* Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
* The Abyss (1989)
* Contact (1997)
* Sphere (1998)
* The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)(2008): I like the original more, but I still like the remake
* Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
* Signs (2002)
* Stargate (1994)
* War of the Worlds (1953)(2005): I like both
* Ender's Game (2013)
* The Last Starfighter (1984)
* Dark City (1998)
* The Fourth Kind (2009)
* Forbidden Planet (1956)
* The Andromeda Strain (1971)
* Cocoon (1985)

Pre COVID, on occasion they would play this on an outdoor screen at Devil's Tower. I'm not sure if they stopped for the pandemic, but can you imagine seeing this for a night time screening AT Devil's Tower
