I think it's clear the actor of Leon did his best to present the character as someone who was simply not the brightest and as someone who is lonely; which definitely does help a lot for the role and makes it less uncomfortable. But, the intentions of the director from the life he lived made it clear what he was trying to do; having that understanding on top of it just made it feel weirder.

It’s also clear to me that the script and movie that was made is not the same as the original draft. So I am saying even as an adult I see the film that was made. I also don’t see the scenes in the full version the same way that you do. I’m not here to defend pedo’s I just don’t see Leon as a pedo. I never have the impression that he is resisting an urge. Not even in the international version.

That’s how he loves her. He always shuts her down romantically when she miss understands her feelings for him. Love you guys and your reactions. Nick By the way. I’m a 42 year old dude who has watched the American and international versions more times than I can count over the past 20 plus years. I’ve studied it and the director a lot so I just wanted to back up my opinion a little bit.
