As Ksenya already mentioned like a thousand times, this whole spectacle is a coverup, indeed.
Our brave guys in hazmat suits are doing some shady experimental stuff. They are really chatty, so expet more Tarantino-esque dialogues and arguing about the things you as a reader have no idea about whatsoever.
There's gonna be a lot of references as well, mostly to Half-Life (the first one).

I also use more 3d software. I think it was already apparent with guns and cars. Especially guns. Now I do most of the enviroments in a very rough 3d first. That really speeds up the proccess:
