2020-07-30 16:40:44 +0000 UTCThis episode hit me hard in the feels.... what with the crying, and the fact that he wasn't able to properly say goodbye to his mom as he was walking out the door, before getting summoned to another world. Also thinking about that he's been subconsciously living with this lack of closure with his parents all this time. It was a very beautiful episode, and a nice breather from the chaos.

2020-07-29 23:34:28 +0000 UTCYeah I believe the "You're just like your dad" thing is similar to what Sherm said. When Subaru was young, he was successful in aspects like his father, idolizing him. Due to the fact he thought he compared to his father but learned that it was not enough... he lost his confidence in his abilities with the thought of surpassing his father (since idolized), it seemed impossible. He simply drowned in expectation to match up since he has always been compared. "You're just like your dad" is a painful reminder of his failure. Subaru has always had an inferiority complex which has only furthered his self hatred. This is what also led to his ego... this episode is amazing for contextualizing Subaru as a character. Episode 18 was his first step of self love, he has grown a lot.
