To be able to think on his feet so quick like that, to clap and switch positions between two specific subjects at any given moment in the midst of battle. That is EXTREMELY impressive. I think he did say in S1 that he doesn't actually need to clap to activate his ability? If my recollection is correct there, then the sfx was just added to tell us as the viewers that he used it.
