It's a shame because the first 20 minutes really has some fun and then they just double down on the maudlin, ham-fisted drama that Dabb has gorged upon for 3 seasons. It's a shame. Personally, I look at 1-5 as the true run with the rest of the seasons as incredible bonus material. To me, Carver was the last great showrunner.

2020-11-21 16:14:51 +0000 UTCYeah, it's a shame they couldn't wait -- the contracted issues with the stars is likely why -- but I think it's a rushed ending for what was an epic run. Sort of reminds me of King wrapping up The Dark Tower post-accident.

2020-11-21 16:14:18 +0000 UTCNo, I agree with you -- and I don't think it's about expectations. I think Dabb likely thought by having them be in heaven, they were able to finally rest. The problem is the execution in how they got there. It's just perverse to me that they could go from Episode 19 and have that lovely Jackson Browne "send off", only to pivot into their death. It's almost like they were telling a joke. A Canterbury tale even. Again, I just would have had this final episode be a breezy episode with Sam and Dean. Give us time to be with them. We've seen them die, we've seen them grieve -- why couldn't we just seem them be happy? And then let US be able to imagine where they go -- leave the sandbox to the fans. Oh well.

I do not like to needlessly shit on media but unfortunately this was a show that was close to my heart when I was younger, one that I was a fan of for many years. Perhaps my expectations were too high but I feel that as much as the show pushed for a theme of finding your own family, which in itself is an extension of the largest theme "free will," ..... they wrapped everything up in the way that felt preordained. Dean's death was not only cruel but what HE expected. What is the point of the characters achieving free will only to fall into the very same character arcs we prayed they would finally free themselves of? Dean's ending particularly hurt me. Most of the episode I spent laughing at the ridiculous spectacle, but seeing Dean die and end up in heaven with his abusive father was hard to stomach. Also, the queerbaiting of the show should be addressed.

I would have liked to have seen Sam and Dean reuniting with John, Mary, and Cas, but I’m guessing they had to change it because of Covid. I still went through 6 Kleenexes during the episode though.

Sam and Dean got the ending they deserved, and I was satisfied with it, though I'd have liked to have sean John and Mary waiting for them at the end. That would have been the difference between a GOOD ending and a Perfect ending.

2020-11-20 23:23:45 +0000 UTCWow, where to even start - Dean Winchester's sudden death by rebar? Old Man Sam's tragic $5.99 wig? The excruciating Carry on Wayward Son cover? Or how about the preceding "episode," an hour-long circle jerk in which Castiel (who's been hanging out with them for 11 seasons) is referred to as the third brother, only to receive the most passing mention in the final episode? (Is he just like, suffering in the Empty forever?) Okay okay, sorry to sound super cranky - it wasn't a very good ending to me but I guess to be fair, the show hasn't been very good for a while. This definitely felt like a shambling, exhausted, shrug of a finale, but hey, we'll always have those first five seasons!

I loved the finale it wasn't at all what I thought we would get, but I cried a lot and if Sam and Dean are happy together even in death then I'm ok with that.
