Stephen King Archives Vol. 7: World of Horror

Constant Listeners, there is an archives to the Derry Private Library. Thanks to our Losers' Club historian Bryant Burnette, we have unearthed an entire vault of Stephen King material. From unpublished short stories to long-forgotten interviews, dusty manuscripts to alternate versions of your favorite tales, there is much to discuss...

This month, as we celebrate Blockbuster Month, the Losers head into the Archives to dust off the Derry Private Library's VHS copy of Stephen King's World of Horror.

Released in 1986, the 45-minute doc covers the works of King and his influence on pop culture. Peppered between segments with King are a number of clips from essential horror titles alongside interviews with John Carpenter, Clive Barker, Tom Savini, etc.

Together, the Losers revisit the analog era of being a horror fan, digress on King's myriad quotes throughout the 45 minute special, and chew on the evolution of pop culture icons.

As they're wont to do, Roffman, Randall, and Jenn detour into a number of unexpected tangents, the likes of which lead them to places both wonderful and strange.

Stay tuned for another journey into the Archives come August.

I remember seeing this when it aired on WPWR Channel 50 in Chicago, and I have two VHS copies on my bookshelf: one with the title of 'This Is Horror' and the other being 'Stephen King's World of Horror'. When I saw first it on television, it was a feature length version, and included footage for upcoming horror films of the time, such as an interview with Brion James for 'The Horror Show'.

Man, I love episodes like this. Such a great, insightful convo. This is why y’all are the best in the biz.

It's very strange. Like a whole industry is gone. Or has just become ... Twitter.

We love you, too. :)

Fixed!

Mike, your followup to Randall's line of thought could have come straight out of my own brain (except you phrase it better than I could). Goddamn, I love The Losers' Club.

Oh, by the way -- looks like the filename above got mistitled. It definitely is the World of Horror episode, though; I'm listening to it now.

Randall, I had a pro wrestling phase, too, and I totally remember seeing some of those ads in magazines and jonesing to be able to get some of those VHSes. Never did get a single one of 'em! I've got lots of similar memories involving ads in movie mags, too, especially Starlog. It's so weird to think that there's maybe no modern equivalent of that sort of thing. Or maybe there is and it just doesn't seem like it; if so, I'd love to know what that equivalent is, just to know what modern kids have the same type of reaction to.
