Host Randall Colburn is joined by Loser Justin Gerber for a sweeping conversation about Michael Crichton's Sphere, a sci-fi page-turner that not only came out the same year as Stephen King's The Tommyknockers, but shares a shockingly similar premise. The boys discuss the King parallels, as well as the book's obsession with the inexplicable, the author's interest in human frailty, and the film adaptation's disappointing lack of a giant squid.

Excellent episode! I went to see the movie on opening night and in the line I saw my tall, strong jawed, energetic and inspiring science teacher; a one in a million kind of person a one in 70 kind of teacher. He didn't think the movie worked out, but I sure did. I fell asleep in class one day and woke me by slapping my desk very hard. Anyway really great show, I'll be rereading the book next month because of it.
