I've always felt sorry for Jonathan, even towards the end. I don't think he was ever evil, he just always felt alone and gave into peer pressure because hewanted people to like him. I just wish during any of the conversations Buffy had with him, she had just said "if you ever need to talk to anybody, you can talk to me".

And they hit every beat, even a self-sacrifice scene that saves the world as we know it. They didn't hit the last beat, but it was deliberate subversion--instead of everyone feeling like the experience made them better, they were mad as hell. I wonder how many Buffy fics were surreptitiously read in which there's a new slayer in town who's so very much better than Buffy OR Faith OR Kendra, and had all kinds of "interesting" sidelines, and could sing and starred in movies.
