As divisive as this movie is, it's more interesting to go back and rewatch this movie AFTER you know Moody/Crouch's true loyalties. The clues to who he is are so beautifully seeded and it's fun to see how many it's possible to pick out.

There's his oldest brother Bill who works at Gringots after graduating Hogwarts (he was a prefect and headboy) brother Charlie who works with dragons (he was prefect and quidditch captain), Percy who was prefect then head boy before going to work at the minsitry, the twins who are pretty well known, Ginny is the only girl. Ron often gets over shadowed in his life which often gets to him. Don't forget the first 2 movies he was using a hand-me-down wand so it wasn't even his which didn't help showcase how great of a wizard he is.

2020-08-17 03:52:41 +0000 UTCAlso, as someone else pointed out, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang aren't a female and male school. The book mentions boys at Beauxbatons and the ball, and there's nothing that states there were no girls at Durmstrang. It was just a weird movie choice

I wanted to clarify something that maybe isn’t really clear in the movie until you watch it a few times. Ron isn’t just upset that he thinks Harry put his name into the Goblet. Ron is upset because everything always seems to work out for Harry. Ron’s oldest brother Bill was the smartest kid in school and Head Boy in his last year. The next oldest brother is Charlie, who was Quidditch Captain. Then there’s Percy, who is again the smartest kid in school. Then there’s Fred and George, who are super popular and charismatic. Meanwhile, Ron has to deal with his mom constantly forgetting that he hates corned beef sandwiches and hates the color maroon, yet that’s the sandwiches she sends with him on the Hogwarts Express to school every year, and that’s the color sweater she knits him every Christmas. And now his best friend is the famous Harry Potter, who tries his best not to attract attention but gets it anyway, and Harry somehow now gets to compete in a tournament with a HUGE cash prize when Harry’s vault is full of gold but Ron’s family is poor. Remember when Ron looked into the Mirror of Erised? He saw himself as Quidditch Captain and Head Boy. He just wants some recognition. He just wants to be important. Ron has so many insecurities, because he is the youngest son in a academically and athletically successful family but also because he is the sidekick of the most famous wizard in the world. Those insecurities are understandable, and Ron gets over them midway through the movie or so. But they are real.

The book explicitly refers to Beauxbatons boys at the ball, and there's no indication that there are no girls among the Durmstrang delegation. I don't hate this one, and I think they did a very long book as well as they could... but I do miss the rest of the story!

2020-07-15 23:35:08 +0000 UTCGlad you enjoyed it. This movie is actually one of the more divisive ones for fans of the books as this movie leaves out TONS of stuff. I can't go into all of it but Rita Skeeter and Barty Crouch had basically 95% of their story cut to say the least.
