This was by far the only movie in the franchise that I rank a 1.5 out of 10. WAAAAY TOO MUCH ROMANCE. Only about 4% of the film was about the half-blood prince. 90% was about romance. And the last 6% was about Malfoy. The horcrux reveal was stupid considering DUMBLEDORE KNEW ABOUT EVERYTHING ALL ALONG! What was the point in having harry learn about it from Slughorns memories??? This was just a bad movie with very little good points in it.

I don't think there is a spell to copy books, and I have an interesting theory as to why. Using a spell to duplicate a book would be the same as downloading a copy of a book off of a pirate site. It would cause the author to lose money from the sale. I even imagine there are spells on books when they're published, preventing them from being duplicated by magic, similar to ebooks being embedded with things that make copying them or pirating them difficult. I love digging into things like this. Your spell to duplicate books made me laugh, though. Couple of other thoughts. I don't know if anyone explained this already, but Snape called himself The Half Blood Prince because his mother's last name was Prince. It's never said in the movies, but it's explained in the books. I love Luna in the movies, too. While I love the movies, for the most part I love the books more. Luna, however, is the one aspect of the movies I liked better than the books. In the books, to me, she was just too out there and weird and just offputting. I'd be interested to see what you thought of her if you ever end up reading the books. Horace, likewise, is slightly more likable in the movies, though I don't dislike the book version of him. Your reaction to Snape during this movie was perfect, especially having seen your reaction to the final film and seeing the direction Snape's character ends up going. You were right in your hopes here. He was a triple agent, playing Voldemort by pretending to be playing Dumbledore. Snape is one of my favorite characters in the whole series.

2020-10-26 08:17:20 +0000 UTCI agree with Chess. Sirius didn't like his family much, he was also not sorted into Slytherin like the rest of his family. He was always the outcast so it was no surprise he could turn his backs on them, especially once he met James and Lupin. Draco definitely took after his father, you can see from the start his arrogance was way up there. He probably always knew he would be a death eater like his father, and probably as a kid growing up to believe the Dark Lord would be back and you would be protected under him, you would happily do it. Especially if you know if you say no, your family is threatened by him. By this point he didn't have much of a choice. It's one of those things where people think something is a great idea then instantly regret it after they do. People can make mistakes, it doesn't mean they deserve no sympathy.

Draco just did a stupid thing to become a death eater and then realized it was a bad idea. But he still did it. Sirius ran away from his death eater family at the age of 16 because he knew it was wrong. Draco didnβt. He is still very much attached to his death eater dad and sympathetic mom. Iβm sorry, but anyone decent would leave their evil families at this point. *shrug*

Also it wasn't just his life on the line. If I remember right, it was basically his entire family that Voldemort threatened to kill so he really didn't have much choice in the matter

I was expecting an emotional response, especially given the last 2 movies and the deaths of Cedric and Sirius, but nothing prepared me for that! I'm so invested in these reactions of yours and how you pay such close attention to things - in this case, Snape. Hermione accuses him of cheating because she... is directly following different instructions. How is one any different from the other? Harry is coasting on successfully making the potions, grade-wise, not depending on extra points for creativity. (If creativity were getting the grade, it would be cheating.) Neither one of them is exhibiting any special aptitude for potions, just for reading instructions. It's like cooking--Hermione is using the standard recipe from a cookbook, Harry is using one that includes Grammy's special instructions, both are coming up with the expected dish at the end, but neither is exactly setting the world on fire with cooking ability. I hate the way this film looks--like the whole negative got dipped in a thick mud puddle (with a handy helping of green algae). Nothing to say about the story, but it's just ugly. Hermione should remember what she said to Ron when he kvetched about her going to the ball with Viktor... Heheheh. You'd appreciate that in the book when they got to the blood gate, Dumbledore's reaction was more or less the same as yours... "Oh, PLEASE. Must we? Ah, well..." PS: Just a thought, but I'd love to see someone who hasn't read the books react to the The Dom's "Lost In Adaptation" Harry Potterathon, where he compares the books and movies in a quite entertaining way. I love watching what happens when those same people get to this movie and fall apart. These books are revered as the single best series in the world, having sold more than anything else in history, I believe, save for Lord of the Rings and The Bible, And for me, this is the movie where those who skip the books truly begin to see why. This is the one where the series begins to show it's true greatness. Powerful storytelling that almost transcends understanding. Pretty good for a children's book, huh?

I do not feel sorry for Draco for one second and never have. He got himself into this situation and is now scared that Voldemort will kill him? So? Voldemort has been trying to kill Harry for a dozen years or so and neither Harry nor any of his friends would consider killing Dumbledore to save their own self. Furthermore, any person worthy of a redemption arc would have disowned that horrible family of his already. Sirius Black did. Draco didnβt. Finally, just to be clear, Voldemort didnβt ask Slughorn if he could make 7 horcruxes. He asked if his could split his soul into 7 pieces, 6 in horcruxes and 1 still in his own body.

They arenβt just Ronβs brothers, they are actually very close with Harry. Harry gave the twins his monetary winnings from the triwizard tournament so they could start their own business. They never charged Harry a dime for anything from the shop. One of the more interesting things about Hermione is that she flat out refuses to believe anything that is terrifying to her. Having a death eater as a fellow student is one of the scariest things she can think of, so she never wants to believe Harry when he keeps insisting that Draco is up to no good. The Half Blood Prince reveal did take a bit of a back seat, but they tried to make up for it by having Harry constantly reading the book and carrying it everywhere with him. Also, since Snape did what he did at the end, this movie was ultimately about him. Something a lot of people donβt catch is that Snape knew how to heal the Sectumsempra wounds because he is the one who invented the spell in the first place.

You will definitely get the resolution to your questions in the next 2 films. This one was definitely emotionally trying and shocking, from the sequence of the cave, to the end scene. It is setting up SO much, and I am excited for you to see the final two films. Oh, you better prepare your heart for what is about to happen!

"Your body willll decaaaaay, but your spirit liiiingers on..." My husband and I often quote that. I am entertained by all the teenage love drama. I enjoy the mystery of finding the half-blood prince (though, undoubtedly this is *much* better in the book). So many plot points setting up the finale!

Half the books plot, maybe more, is about Harry trying to figure out what he is up to. It involves a lot of uses of the marauder's map too. I remember that when I first watched this in theatre I was so mad that they made it super obvious what he was doing so early in the film when I watched it. Otherwise, I do like this movie.
