But what I especially love about this episode is how the main characters were not arguing that they should get to stay in Paradise; they were each arguing that they ought to go to Hell and spare their friends, because they care more about each other than themselves. I can't wait for you to continue with this show!

I remember even in one episode you kept going "All she wants is to help people", and even in that episodes there were hints at her motivation but it can be hard to see until this episode haha EDIT: By the way, I was wondering if you figured it out a couple episodes ago, I think it was "Chidi's choice". When "real-Eleanor" shows up and says she wanted to check on our Eleanor who says "man, you are a good person" you made a realisation face and gasped super loudly I was like "oh shit he caught on" but you never discussed it and it didn't end up in the Youtube reaction haha

2020-11-06 05:52:28 +0000 UTCThis season and finale twist were absolutely masterfully done by show creator Mike Schur. The best part is that if you go back and rewatch it, it still holds up under scrutiny. The wrote the whole season with the twist in mind so they were always very cognizant of it. Every time that we see Michael he is with one of the main 4 characters so he’s always “in character”. We never see him by himself where he wouldn’t have to play the “good Michael” character. It’s really amazing.

There's a great short clip where all the other regulars find out the twist together. Their facial expressions are the best!

2020-11-06 02:22:08 +0000 UTCI'm sure every Good Place fan can relay that Kristen and Ted and Michael Schur (and a very select few other writers and producers) were the only ones who knew from the beginning of shooting the show that this was how season 1 was going to end. I believe there's still a short video on Youtube (filmed by Kristen) showing the rest of the cast reacting to finding out before their table read for the season finale.

Luckily it didn't happen, and you encountered The Twist (one of the greatest in the history of TV) unprepared. Loved watching your reaction! When I first watched the show, the only premonition I had was in the episode when it was revealed that Motivation counted for earning points, and I wondered "Wait, wasn't Tehani's motivation on earth corrupt?" I assumed they'd address that eventually, but had no idea it would be done in this way! (There's also a tiny clue in this episode, when Michael's blueprint for the neighborhood is titled "THE GOOD PLACE" in quotation marks, indicating that this one neighborhood is a pretend version of the good place. But I don't think anyone thinks about that at the time; I certainly didn't.) On to season 2!
