Xena: Warrior Princess 1x08 "Prometheus" Reaction

Xena: Warrior Princess 1x08 "Prometheus" Reaction

The best things about Hercules are the crossover eps, MH as the Widow Twankey (and just MH in general as a good actor), and 'Yes Virginia There Is a Hercules'. Otherwise, Sorbo can go float himself. But I am grateful that from Hercules, Xena rose.

I’ve never seen Hercules The Legendary Journeys in its entirety but what I have seen (mostly the crossovers) I didn’t feel like it was the show for me even though it is written by a majority of the same people that wrote Xena. But I think it’s just because I prefer female leads. The gender stereotypes are pretty obvious in Hercules and that turns me off to it. But I definitely think it’s important to watch the introduction of Xena at some point since Xena is the spin off show. It does very much inform her choice to do good so Hercules is important for that.

The forced romantic dynamics between Xena and Hercules and Gabrielle and Iolas bug the hell out of me every time I watch this episode. But I do love Gabrielle’s telling of the soul mate story and how the most genuinely romantic moment happens between Xena and Gabrielle when they say goodbye and Gabrielle tells Xena not to strike the blow. Beautiful moment there.

Totally agree that thise 3 spisodes are a must watch.

I personally watch Hercules because of Iolaus. I always liked him more than Herc. In fact he was one of my first crushes.

Xena and Gabrielle's relationships with other characters help define them as much as other aspects of the show do. I don't see a problem at all with that. Xena had history with Marcus, Hercules and Iolaus which was highly significant and important- in the case of Marcus very tragic and moving. I'd hardly call Gabrielle's interactions with male characters in these first episodes full blown romances. There was an attraction in a couple of cases but Gabrielle also served as an inspiration and support to them.

It was really moving that Xena asked Gabrielle about her aspirations as a bard and wanted Hercules to help Gabrielle fulfill them when Xena thought she wouldn't return from her mission. Knowing Xena's arc thus far, part of her surely must be thinking that Gabrielle would be happier if she were to leave Xena and explore other aspects of her life. Also, it is fine in this episode because Xena and Hercules have history and Iolaus and Gabrielle bonded over legitimate commonalities... But one aspect of the episodes so far that I personally didn't really care for is that one or both of the leads had potential romances in 6 of the 8 episodes, with different men each time too. Don't really think these romantic plots had much impact and it would be more interesting to focus on defining the core characters first.

Not gonna lie kevin sorbo was one of my first crushes watching Hercules. Notice also how Hercules seems to pick up sticks and rocks more than swords in a fight. His being a godly warrior and Xena being more a soldier warrior. Also Ioluas that liar :P saying he didn't remember the story then asking Hercules about it. And now you've had Ares and Hera. Hearing Gabrielle's plans, it was nice to hear she wouldn't just give up and go home, she really had a life to live beyond what was initially offered to her

I’m not one who thinks you need to watch Hercules, but I do think it’d be a good idea to watch her introductory trilogy episodes “The Warrior Princess”, “The Gauntlet”, and “Unchained Heart” which spawned the series. It would give a lot more background to the character that is implied in what you are watching.

I was quite glad to see this episode go over well, and I was anticipating it for a while. I love crossovers in general, and when it’s a crossover between two of my favorite shows, so much the better. I realize some folks have a hard time dealing with CGI, but that’s unavoidable. And I never know how someone will feel about the Green Egg Men (who went on to lead long and prosperous lives.) Herc and Iolaus teaming with Xena and Gabrielle for the first time (and Hercules and Gabrielle MEETING for the first time) will always make this one a first season highlight for me. 🗡 💪🏻

I'm glad you enjoyed your first exposure to Hercules and Iolaus in this episode which was the first major crossover episode between both shows. It's a nice romp with some good emotion mixed in. It's nice to see the parallel conversations between Xena and Herc and Gabby and Iolaus and I've always loved Gabrielle's story that she tells in the caves. The CGI creature is kinda endearing and that whole sequence with Xena in flight reminds me of something out of a classic Sinbad movie. (Buffy too had a few examples of early CGI work). There'll be more a use of prosthetics in later episodes. Really glad you had fun with this one, Liam, and happy you checked out the disclaimer too at the end :-)
