Hey! Just joined here after seeing Supernatural reactions pop up on Youtube... I was just going to do the $5 tier... Then I saw these and - oh hell yeah!!! I'm sooooo starting with LOTR lol!!! I'll get to the Spn and Once Upon a Time reactions later. They'll have to take a back seat to Tolkien. <3

So after a day in my local imax yesterday I now get to enjoy someone watching my favourite film for the first time! So pleased you enjoyed it. I dearly love this trilogy. Nothing else compares to it for the way it makes me feel. 20 years since I first watched it in cinemas and it’s still superb. I prefer the extended editions of course & key bits I think shouldn’t have been cut are the giving of the gifts. It really should’ve been in there for context. I also enjoy the added boromir / Aragorn scenes which make his death scene more impactful. And as you say, Sean bean always dies!

2021-09-26 13:20:10 +0000 UTCI don't know if anyone has said this yet, but I would really recommend watching the credits at some point (bearing in mind it's been 3 months so you may well have already); there are some really beautiful songs there. Including 'May it Be' by Enya, which was recorded specially for this movie and has some Elvish lyrics.

2021-06-19 13:31:58 +0000 UTCAmazing reaction you had to this first movie, you caught on pretty quick unlike others I've seen react to it. I would say the best way to experience these movies are with the Extended Cuts, mostly expanded on the world and some of the other characters. The theatrical cut of Fellowship was mostly aiming to be only very Frodo centric and others were mostly background at that point. Many odd editing choices to remove some scenes that were originally there and stuff, clocking in at 2 hours & 58 minutes, where this one was 30 minutes longer. Many scenes that were added were like: - Isildur's death scene, as in the original cut, it just shows the beginning of that ambush and then cuts to black and shows him dead, telling that it betrayed him. - All of Bilbo telling about the Shire and him franticly looking for the Ring was cut as he's introduced right when Gandalf knocks on his door. The prologue ends fading to black and goes straight to Frodo reading as he hears Gandalf, and we get the introduction to the Shire from their point of view. - Another small scene that was cut was who was knocking at Bilbo's door. - The one pivotal scene between Frodo and Bilbo was cut, odd as that felt kinda "Frodo centric" - The next scene that was fully cut was Frodo & Sam seeing the Wood Elves and hearing about the Grey Havens, as well as them struggling to sleep. - Few seconds cut from Merry & Frodo's conversation about trusting Aragorn at first. Mainly "Think a servant of the enemy would look fairer and feel fouler. He's foul-enough." - The scene of them traveling through that swamp as well as Aragorn singing about the Elf Maiden Lay of Luthien & Beren. - The small scene where Sam says they stopped under the stone Trolls Bilbo talked about. - The small scene between Aragorn & Boromir first meeting in the place where the broken sword is., as they don't talk at all during that scene in the Theatrical Cut, just stare at each other. - One big scene during The Council of Elrond was cut mostly unnoticeably, the scene where Boromir says he had a dream and tries to take the Ring as Gandalf shouts him with the Black Speech to sit down. - The whole scene where Aragorn is at the grave with Elrond as his doubts about him being King. - The whole entire scene of them leaving Rivendell and Aragorn seeing Arwen a last time before they go was all cut. - Small scene when Merry & Pippin are wrestling Boromir, Aragorn tries to stop them and playfully knock him down. -Another small scene where Boromir says "We cannot stay here, this will be the death of the Hobbits!" - The scene with Gandalf & Frodo talking about the Ring's power growing and telling him to trust no one but himself was cut too. Another important scene that felt "Frodo centric." - A small few moments with Gimli & Gandalf talking about the Dwarf door and Legolas ain't so surprised, and Gandalf having more spell tries and scolding Pippin for his foolish question. - A long scene of them walking around and Gandalf telling them about the wealth of Moria was Mythril and telling them that the shirt was worth a lot, was cut. - One quick scene was cut during the Troll fight, Sam nearly getting crushed, but Boromir & Aragorn holds it back, then Boromir getting yeeted across the room and nearly gets killed by a Goblin as Aragorn saves him. - The Fellowship getting to Lothlorien was much quicker and easier in the Theatrical Cut as they just take them there anyways, cutting that whole scene where they couldn't go no further and everyone looked at Frodo as Boromir talks to Frodo about not carrying the weight of the dead and them seeing the full tree realm of Lothlorien, another "Frodo-centric" scene. - Lot of moments of dialogue was cut from the Fellowship meeting Celeborn & Galadriel. Just cutting it to make it a much shorter scene in the Theatrical Cut. - Small scene where Sam tries to think of lyrics for the Lament of Gandalf. - The biggest and longest scene that was added was them leaving Lothlorien and them receiving gifts from the Elves, that being the cloaks, the Elvish bread, Legolas' new bow, Aragorn's new dagger & Sam's rope, as in the Theatrical Cut, they just have them. I always wondered how Legolas got a new bow, and when I saw this, now I knew. The only thing they did show is Galadriel giving Frodo the Light of Earendil, as that will be important later. As well as cutting the scene with Gimli telling Legolas that his gift was 3 pieces of Galadriel's hair. - Another scene was Aragorn & Boromir spotting Gollum, Frodo distancing himself from Sam and Aragorn & Boromir arguing about not going to Gondor. - Another big scene that had lot more moments of Boromir, Merry & Pippin fighting the Uruks, as well as the shots of Merry & Pippin throwing rocks at the Uruks to help Boromir, and even their quick reaction shot of them seeing Boromir get shot was all cut out. But beautifully put back in as well as adding new music to that scene to make it more epic for Boromir's sacrifice. - The last new scene was Aragorn's final words to Boromir, "They will look for us coming from the White Tower...but he will not return." I mostly memorized this entire first movie from start to end, this one never gets old to rewatch since I first seen it way back in 2004, never did get to see these in theaters as I was way too young and was going through family drama. But came across them, and loved them so much. I would say out of all the Extended Cuts, this one feels the most natural and best paced and I mostly ain't gonna point out the new scenes that were added in the other two as there is so much to list. Another cool thing is with Christopher Lee, he was the biggest fan of the book, and says that he read it every year from when it came out. He was also one of the only members of the cast & crew to have even met the author of the book, J.R.R. Tolkien, when he was alive. So he mostly was proud of what Peter Jackson & his crew were able to achieve and thanked him for that. Just whoo...glad you're finally doing this journey, these were wonderfully made with such hard work and dedication from everyone involved with it. Hope you'll enjoy the rest and good on ya man!

2021-06-17 23:15:00 +0000 UTCFun fact, in the final fight scene between Aragorn and Lurtz, when Aragorn deflects that dagger thrown at him, Viggo Mortensen actually did that for real. The actor playing Lurtz was just supposed to pretend to throw it and then they were gonna add it in post, but his hand slipped and he accidentally threw it. Thankfully nobody was hurt, and they kept the shot in since he actually managed to deflect it. I highly recommend watching all the special features/behind the scenes stuff if you have the ability to, even if its just on your own time and not recorded. It's amazing what they were able to accomplish, and how great these movies look even 20-odd years later.

Beyond the incredible feeling I get when watching these films, the cast was also so fun off-screen. The actors who played the members of the Fellowship all got matching tattoos of the word “nine” in Elvish, as there are nine of them. Billy Boyd and Dom Monaghan (who play Pippin and Merry respectively) recently started a podcast, The Friendship Onion, even 20 years after the release of the first film. They’ve already had Elijah Wood as a guest. The behind-the-scenes stuff with the cast is so much fun. I’m so happy you’re watching these!

2021-06-14 07:56:51 +0000 UTClol wrong movie series----pirates of the caribbean is the movie series with 20 minutes of credits and an end clip after (Well the music for that and lotr are epic for both credit rolls) The average lifespan of a hobbit is 80-100 years old (debatable to which end) so not much difference then perhaps current day human.....bilbo was obviously older at 111 at time of birthday and looked like an ave middle aged hobbit. dwarves live longer-closer to 200 years and elves longer.........

These books are definitely a lot harder to read than the HP books, so take your time! <3 As for how long Hobbits live, look in the Player's Handbook for D&D under the race 'Halfling,' because they're the same thing. The only reason Wizards of the Coast didn't use 'Hobbit' is because one of the Tolkien family members tried to sue them, claiming ownership of the name 'Hobbit,' so they changed it to 'Halfling' for D&D instead.
