Super-Early Access

Hey patrons!

Normally y'all get access to my videos a day early. However, in this case, you're getting it close to a week early. While finishing up the edit, I re-recorded a few lines in the Sound Studio, and for some reason they're really distorted. By the time I noticed there wasn't enough time on my reservation to record again. (This is why it pays to do a test recording right away.)

I went ahead and spliced them in so I could finish the edit, but the earliest I can re-re-record them is Saturday evening. So this will likely get finished up and go public on Sunday or Monday, but seeing as it's done save for those few sentences, I figured I could go ahead and send it to you.

I'll send an update and charge when the final version goes online. Meantime I'll be working on the next one!

I would hope this video is reasonable and articulate enough that anyone who is capable of being convinced by it can be. And do feel free to direct it at whomever! :)

I have been using Patreon for over a year. This is the first time I've actually watched/read/looked at a piece of 'early access' and I'm eager to share it with people.

Well… I don't know, I'm no-one to tell you what you should be doing (wait, what am I saying? I'm a PATRON, I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANG… ok) but I feel your voice is reasonable and articulate enough to be hear on the other side of the aisle. So I for instance in the thousand debates I have on these subjects would try to turn enemies into less agressive enemies by pointing towards your videos rather than making ad-hominem and silly remarks.

Something I tried to articulate in Why Are You So Angry is that it's not always about convincing Jack, but about making it harder for him to convince other people. By the time someone is saying "cultivation theory has been disproven by a single study," they've made up their mind to believe a really flimsy argument, and I, as just some stranger on the internet, am not likely to change their mind. And they're certainly not saying it to change *my* mind - they're trying to convince random people observing the conversation. "Ever heard of cultivation theory? Well, don't worry, everyone agrees it's nonsense!" I'm not in the business of turning opponents into allies. I'm interested in turning neutral parties into allies and turning allies into better allies.

I think it might have been a good idea to help people relate to the idea of cultivation theory via youtube. People that are not convince that cultivation theory is a thing will watch your video on youtube. They know youtube, they are the youtube génération they gorge themselves on video culture the way we all do. So if you say in a debate with an GGer for instance that says media doesn't affect him cause he's a "grown man" my answer is to bring him step by step to admit that yes, watching a documentary can change your worldview, and watching art can change your life and watching youtube video CAN change the way you think. I'm saying that because to be honest I loved the video as always but I fear it has fallen into a trap that is super easy to fall into: talking to people that are already convinced by your arguments :(
