New Video Essay! A Single Study in Germany

After some re-recording of bad audio, a bunch of waffling about the title, and a last-minute addition of outro music, the new video essay is officially public! We'll see how this goes over with the peanut gallery.

Thanks again, everyone!

Another great video! Keep up the good work.

It depends on context. A) do you provide enough context to make a reasonable assumption about the role and importance of a figure, and B) what is the context of your video? Is it stalk-y celebrity idolatry, or does it seek to inform about substantive matters? If it was just a screenshot of a post somewhere, it would seem like it is arcane information, but by vocalizing the post you give it weight in your narrative. Usually you've provided background on people before plopping them in the middle of your narrative.

You could put descriptions of who people are in chyrons or the description on Youtube so that people can cut and paste and look further if they're interested.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Yes, Jon McIntosh is co-producer on Feminist Frequency. I suppose I often take it on faith that people with recognize/Google names like Jon McIntosh, Anita Sarkeesian, Jane McGonigal, and, um... Don Draper. It's hard to add that context without getting derailed, especially when it's such a passing mention. Will keep in mind for future scripts.)

Who is John McIntosh? The video suggests he is/was a researcher in the field of psychology. Comments suggest maybe he is a contemporary figure. Is he Anita Sarkeesian's male assistant/collaborator on her website? If so is his "body of work" web videos? I would have posed this question in the preview, but I didn't have my doubts until I began to see McIntosh in the comments. I do not see a McIntosh who fits the bill on Wikipedia. These are very carefully prepared videos. They should be self contained; explain who figures are. It's probably not too late for a popup note this time.
