Epic(?)
Added 2016-05-24 19:55:24 +0000 UTCHello folks,
Here's a wrinkle: this Patreon pitched the release of videos at 10-15 minutes in length, and the script I'm working on now is shaping up to be something like half an hour. I have a personal rule that says "don't go over 20 minutes unless it's warranted," which is why I've only gone over 20 minutes one time. I could trim this script down, but I kind of really like it? But long videos also take longer to make.
So, two questions:
a) how do we feel about this?
b) would you flay me if I counted it as two videos?
Comments
I'm late to the party what with being away from my computer for a while, but I'm down with a long video, and with it counting as two.

2016-05-25 13:47:05 +0000 UTCHey, if you think it will work better this way, then yeah, definitely do it!

2016-05-25 03:09:14 +0000 UTCIf the flow of a 20+ minute video is better than splitting the video in 2, do it! Unless an intermission really feels right.

2016-05-25 02:59:41 +0000 UTCI have no problem with this idea. Long form criticism is always a joy to sit down and watch, and if a single video is best at keeping it cohesive then so be it. Best of luck.

2016-05-25 02:51:29 +0000 UTCI would 100% watch a 20+ minute video from you.

2016-05-25 02:05:49 +0000 UTCa. .The more important thing is that your work is something you're proud of; if there's no reason to split this piece in two, don't :) b. unless we get charged per video, I don't know why this matters at all :)
Alex Bradley
2016-05-25 01:55:23 +0000 UTCa) seems fine. I watch 30+ min videos semi-frequently so it's not a big deal to me. It just means I probably won't watch it right when it comes out as I'll have to find the time, but I usually do so within a week. b) I honestly don't count how many videos you release or how regular they are - I just watch them when they show up - so I won't notice if you count it as two videos or not.

2016-05-24 22:24:45 +0000 UTCI have confidence in your art; you'll make a good video whether its 3 minutes or 3 hours. I also don't have unreasonable expectations of output: I know that making good videos has a time cost for every minute of video. Each video does not take a set amount of time to create, but I do expect a reasonable amount of time making video content every month. Even if it takes 2 months to make a really long video, that's fine.

2016-05-24 22:09:22 +0000 UTCa) Sounds great. Looking forward to seeing something deep. b) Not at all. Go for it.

2016-05-24 21:52:20 +0000 UTCSince its not a per video pledge anymore I don't really care about video length and I'd actually be excited to see different kinds of of videos that run the gamut of lengths. Shorter 2-6 min videos would be cool too here and there if you've got something interesting that wouldn't stretch to fill a regular vid, even if they were less polished. Whatever the material dictates. You do what feels right to you.

2016-05-24 21:51:15 +0000 UTCDon't care even a little. Do what makes you happy. ๐

2016-05-24 20:55:14 +0000 UTCI like longer vids. If you think it needs to be longer to get across better, go ahead.

2016-05-24 20:22:15 +0000 UTCOk, phew. By all means, go for it. Seems like you've said a lot about this being an exception and not a precedent.

2016-05-24 20:17:16 +0000 UTCI'm definitely not splitting it in half. If I don't do a long video, I'll either trim it down to under 20 minutes or release it in multiple parts all at once in a single playlist.
Ian Danskin
2016-05-24 20:17:14 +0000 UTCThe Patreon is set to charge only once a month, no matter how many videos I put out. So no double-charge!
Ian Danskin
2016-05-24 20:15:30 +0000 UTCB). Does that mean i get charged extra this month or that June's payment will also go towards the same video?

2016-05-24 20:13:30 +0000 UTCA). I'm really looking forward to it.

2016-05-24 20:12:28 +0000 UTCas a person who spent a great deal of time trying to get a video down to under 20 minutes and then gave up, I say go for it. I've never known you to waste my time.

2016-05-24 20:04:08 +0000 UTCNah. Make it. Count it as whatever you need to

2016-05-24 20:03:08 +0000 UTCYeah, I trust your judgment. If it wants to be a half hour, I say go for it.

2016-05-24 20:03:00 +0000 UTCPerfectly happy with a longer-form video and having it count as two videos.
2016-05-24 20:01:43 +0000 UTCArtistically ... the material tells you what length it wants to be, and I always respect that. I would have no problem with counting it as two videos.
Jules Chatelain
2016-05-24 20:00:28 +0000 UTCI love longer videos if the length is needed for the ideas. If you split it into 2 videos does that mean waiting till next month to have the full concept of the video being explored? Cause having to wait a long time in between two videos that are meant to be a same topic would be painful

2016-05-24 19:58:24 +0000 UTCI'm okay with one extra large equaling 2 so long as its quality content

2016-05-24 19:57:25 +0000 UTCI find an extra long video acceptable.
