Update Video #5
Added 2017-12-17 22:56:47 +0000 UTC
(that was the least-terrible cover image YouTube gave me.)
I leave for California tomorrow, so here's December's update video!
tl;dr
Business
- I will be giving a 20-30 minute presentation at Indivisiville's Anniversary Event in Somerville, MA, on January 6th. I'll be discussing the broader aims of The Alt-Right Playbook. If you're in the area, please attend!
- The presentation will be filmed, and the recording will be January's video.
- Preparing this presentation by the 6th means pushing back the planned video for this month, so December's video will also come out in January. (Sorry about that.)
- I will also be on the panel Reclaiming Basements in a Multiplayer Era: Why We Game Alone at PAX South in San Antonio, TX, on January 12th, and staying through at least some of the rest of PAX. The panel is hosted by Jayme Dale Mallindine of The Gaming Broad(cast), which I was on a few months back. If you are in the area, come and see!
- With the new Patreon success, here's how we're upping the production values on Innuendo Studios: 1) Switching from Final Cut Pro to Premiere. 2) Getting a new microphone. 3) Getting a new tablet. 4) Getting a Windows laptop that can both run Premiere and play new release games. 5) Eventually getting some studio space.
- I have some ideas for the Extra Project, still mulling them over, will pitch them to you soon.
Pleasure
- Rosario by Headphone Science is a good album.
- Spectra by Chipzel is a good album.
- Recommend me and each other some good albums, wouldja?
I'll be in the comments.
Furthermore: Probably one of the most underated bands I'm aware of. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkVkkbduFaU" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkVkkbduFaU</a>

My favorite band is VNV Nation - are you familiar with them? Start with their Futureperfect Album <3 <a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL78499AB19F3B6E53" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL78499AB19F3B6E53</a>

I second this. Plus when the hardware gets out of date you can switch it out on a desktop, lowering the cost quite a bit. I would say the life of hardware being up to date with most recent games is at most three years, and less for any but the most expensive gaming laptops.

Solid updates! I liked the chipzel album too. Here's hoping you're still browsing the comments 3 days later! I think you'd get a kick out of Haywyre's music. He's got a super cool blend of eletronic/jazzy ambient music that's great for working or studying.
Here's a super dope playlist of his stuff!

Adobe's terrible at customer support but Premiere is way more user friendly if you're doing any sort of editing more complicated than assembling footage. So you're definitely making the right choice. As far as music is concerned, the new MGMT video is pretty great.

Seconded!

Also based on your recommendations I'd suggest Bibio, he's a UK dude who dabbles in electronic, folk, ballads, funk, hip-hop, and lots of other stuff. Check out the album "A Mineral Love"

I used to live in Somerville so when I heard the news I almost fell out of my chair! But I live in Japan now. Oh well. I'll try and force my friends who live there to go, they loved the Alt-Right Playbook video.

I noticed on your OST that the singer from Man Man is also in the band Mister Heavenly. Their album Out Of Love is available for free on youtube, I'd recommend checking it out

I also love <a href="http://www.shemusic.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">She</a> - <a href="https://sheofficial.bandcamp.com/album/days" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Days</a> is a fun concept album, and if you go to her website you can download a copy of Chiptek (really high-energy electronic music) for free.

A while ago I saw <a href="https://youtu.be/2m8s18LrJxk" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">a video of an electronic artist - Ronald Jenkees -
recording a track live on camera</a> and eventually I looked up his Bandcamp and got a big kick out of his other stuff, too. <a href="https://ronaldjenkees.bandcamp.com/album/alpha-numeric" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Alpha Numeric</a> is a full album.
<a href="https://shnabubula.bandcamp.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Shnabubula</a> is really great and puts out stuff on a pick-your-own-price model. Great piano-plus-electronic music - I bought a copy of <a href="https://shnabubula.bandcamp.com/album/nes-jams" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">NES JAMS</a> a while ago and did not regret it.

Will these presentations be available on YouTube or something so we can watch? Edit: Just watched the vid.
Also, been playing a Japanese band called Toe on Spotify while reading. Upbeat instrumental rock.

Oh, yeah, I guess I should pitch in: if you haven't already heard of Caravan Palace, they're basically the forerunners of the Electro Swing genre right now. If you like this: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbQgXeY_zi4," rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbQgXeY_zi4,</a> you'll like everything they do. Oh, yeah, heads up, that video is weird.

THANK YOU for the music recommendations! My music taste seems to basically just be 'good stuff'; I struggle to find any genre I can call home outside of Electro Swing, and so algorithms seem to find it hard to find stuff I'd like. Actually, just looking at my Spotify recommended playlist now, it's a total hodgepodge of randomness. You got me into Man Man from that outro you had on your LiS video, and I'm already completely into Chipzel from the phrase 'the woman who did the soundtrack for Super Hexagon'. Can't wait to see the January stuff!

cryptovolans and staffcirc will blow ur mind if you're into that kinda thing. first tape is an infinite rabbit hole of chords, textures, and modulation, and crypt appears on the tape in the second link. the person who runs staffcirc (k faraday) also is making music for the game Burrito Galaxy 65 which you should DEFINITELY CHECK OUT IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD YET

Steam Powered Giraffe's "Vice Quadrant" is a phenomenal audio space opera across 2 discs created and performed by the band, who is a trio of folks who perform as 100s of years old steam powered robot alter ego's of themselves. oh! absolutely the wonder years "no closer to heaven" it's a beautifully melancholic album about growing up in the modern era. if you're looking for specific songs to try out: the titular 'no closer to heaven', 'saints and cigerettes', and 'you in january' are good starting points!

Yay! All the luck next year :D
Also, maybe consider a custom desktop if you're on a budget? Probably can get better hardware for games and editing in a single strike. :)

My music tastes are rather diverse, and I could be recommending anything from jazz to synthpop, with a thousand other things in between, so with diverse tastes in mind, I want to recommend a pair of albums, The Hands That Thieve by Streetlight Manifesto and The Hand That Thieves by Toh Kay. They are the same album in two different styles; Streetlight Manifesto is ska and Toh Kay (the singer/writer/guitarist for SM) is acoustic folk. Both albums are pretty rockin (though I'm more partial to the Toh Kay one, personally), but they're even more interesting in the context of each other. They're a little difficult to get ahold of, because the record label was kinda pissed by the Toh Kay solo album which wasn't strictly done with the label's permission, but both albums are on youtube.

As a person who usually writes papers from his home, I totally get your desire de look for a studio. I try to take long walks every day to at least make some excersive, but the sheer pressure of just feeling like your house is the only thing that exists in your life is something I'm very familiar with. Hope you can find some cool place to work in soon! And by the way, amazing music recomendations. I'm gonna buy Chipzel right away.

Music recommendations? Well, I think way more people need to listen to Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns. I believe it's their magnum opus-- an apocalyptic concept album that I think is really underappreciated. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuzFV-hv5pw" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuzFV-hv5pw</a>
