How to Radicalize a Normie (complete)

Here's the whole dang thing.

I'm hoping to launch this tomorrow morning, but I'm waiting on confirmation from someone. I thank a number of people who helped with research in the end credits, but I want to make sure everyone consents to having their name in the video, and there's one person I haven't heard back from. (Probably should've sent the email sooner.) Provided they respond in time, I'll launch tomorrow.

Still need to collect all the resources for the show notes, of which there are a lot. But the thing is done.

Thanks for your patience while I worked on this beast. I'm gonna focus on shorter videos for a while.

How to Radicalize a Normie (complete)

Comments

I definitely say "being tolerant."

Ian Danskin

Hey I think I may have found an error. Between 36:06 and 36:13, it sounds like you say “being intolerant helps him make friends” where I believe you mean to say “being tolerant...”

Bradley Ogilvie

As always, I'll be thinking about this for months. Incredible work.

Elliot Berry

I only have one criticism and that is the lack of a musical number in the beginning

Bradley Ogilvie

This seems so much more annoyed or angry than some of your earlier work. Are you getting poisoned by the material you are needing to pour through with these types of video's? Maybe do a lengthy video on something light but important sometime soon. :D Ya know like the socio-economic wars revolving around wedding cake design, or the power struggle between halloween candy manufacturer's, or the underlying subtext in beer bottle labels! (and yeah I'm mostly kidding...mostly)

Sterling Treadwell

Still ongoing. This might be a point where we start winding down, but it'll probably take at least a year to get to the end.

Ian Danskin

:P

This is great dude - just wondering, is this meant to be something of a conclusion or epilogue to the Alt-Right Playbook? Or is that still ongoing? I'm a bit out of the loop, sorry

Gabe Whiteman, Panini Press Blvd just made a sip of coffee come out through the nose the moment it sunk in

Required Hecking Viewing. Such a great distillation of a lot of complex issues. Really appreciate it.

Luis

This is really good, can't wait to share it. The part about infiltrating fandoms was particularly insightful.

Manfredi

Superb work yet again, Ian. Your care with how you approach this content is something I aspire to in my own life and relationships.

Holy hell, I decided to wait until this was all the way done before watching, and it was totally worth the wait.

Eris

Oh yeah, neoreactionaries are definitely in the onion.

Ian Danskin

Oh and hey, personal note — thanks for cutting the "what's up Nat" shout-out. I appreciate you not legitimizing and promoting her, given her recent behavior.

Bloody fantastic video. Thank you very much — I can't wait to share it once it goes live.

...thinking back on my time as an active participant in that community, "a space that's intolerant of leftists and tolerant of nazis" is an accurate description of Less Wrong-flavor rationalism. I specifically remember Eliezer Yudkowsky, the seed crystal around which the Less Wrong community formed, wrote a whole post going, "yeah, all right, I'll grant that pick-up artistry is gross ... but this feminism thing is alienating to men, so let's just not talk about either, okay?" Probably explains why "rationalist" is so associated with right-wing assholery - that community was a trawling-ground for scientific racists, pick-up artists, and gender essentialists. It was (is, probably) part of the outside of the onion.

Hey Ian, you don't need the validation from this internet stranger, but you've made something very good here. Maybe it's because I know of a Gabe in my own life, that I want to see be at peace with the world and be better. Maybe it's simply the emotional impact the last part of the video had. Maybe a lot of things. But I really enjoyed this and have a lot to think about. Thanks for all of your hard work!

Robin!

I for one support the full length video! I think it digests better in its entirety.

And there was much rejoicing!

Adam Reuter

Hey Ian, I'm not usually active on your Patreon or anything, but I've been thinking about the work you (and others) do these past couple of days, and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for it. I've been following/supporting your work for a couple of years, and throughout that time you haven't failed to presented well-reasoned, compelling, and thoughtful thoughts on a lot of topics dear to me. You remain an inspiration to me both in what you do and how you do it; it's honestly staggering how much research and effort and dedication goes into your videos. I'm immensely grateful for the work you put into each of them. I can't imagine what it's like to do what you're doing right now, but I'm very grateful you're doing it. You've made my life better. Thank you <3

Holy moly dude! 41 minutes?!?! This is your Les Miserables, your crowning achievement, your monstrosity that is going to take up 41 awesome minutes of my life while I contemplate the horrors of what your videos imply. In short, a masterpiece.
