I Hate Mondays is public!

Hey team! The video is live. Minor graphical tweaks about, but the only significant change is the bit about "lesser of two evils" logic has been expanded to two paragraphs instead of one to give more nuance, be less blunt, and anticipate the inevitable counter-arguments. I'm probably gonna get shouted at anyway, but getting shouted at is a Monday.

Show it to all your friends so they can shout at me, too!

“If evil can’t be regulated, but we’re saying guns can, are we saying the shooting wasn’t evil?” There might be another mechanism you've already described before at play here: “If we're saying guns can be regulated in response to a shooting, we are saying that it could have been prevented by doing something… But I have done nothing to prevent it, so that would make me a bad person. That's wrong, I'm not a bad person, so no, it's not due to unregulated access to guns, evil is the sole cause. There's nothing to do against evil.” What do you think? (Also just submitted english subtitles…)

hey, I really appreciate the tweaks you made around the 'lesser of two evils' section, I think this final cut makes your point in a stronger fashion. Nice job dude.

(possibly the first point is me falling into both-sidesing, I don't know)

This was delightful. Got some thoughts. I'm kinda surprised the comparison of conservative binary thinking to the left's habit of "thing is not perfect, thing is bad" didn't make it into the script. I've seen you talk about it before, so I'm wondering if there was a reason it didn't feature a bit more (I guess the ending bit counts). Also, though clearly reactionary thinking can find a home in any religion, I do think there are some features of Christianity which make it particularly susceptible. You mention the role of a presumption that the world is born into sin, and that's a very Christian idea.

Absolutely 🙂 I'm just a sensitive Welsh sausage lol

I am going to make him a leftist icon by sheer force of will

the UK *contains* England so it's technically accurate!

Great work, as usual. Sidenote: At 4:10 you say 'England' instead of 'the United Kingdom' when the picture is of the UK. Although gun laws are devolved to some degree, England, Scotland and Wales have essentially identical laws. NI is slightly different. Obviously it has no impact on the validity of your point, and bringing it up will evoke eye-rolling from many. It's just that having your cultural identity cast aside stings when that's exactly what the dominant culture has tried to achieve for centuries.

I'm in a similar position. Because goddamnit, fuck Joe Biden top to bottom, but withholding votes and refusing to participate in the process until the party moves left isn't...functionally doing that, that's not the thing moving the party left. To the degree that it is, its because more left leaning candidates are running and winning where they can. Positive reinforcement drives political change, negative reinforcement just seems to cause candidates to look elsewhere to build their base

I feel the whole "lesser of two evils" could use an even deeper analysis! Really, I'd like to see one dive into that topic as well as the follow-on about fascists saying "Everyone else is the cause and we are the solution" because a rather depressing observation I have made from this 2020 election cycle is the so-called progressive left is a bit plagued by all of this. There are too many (#NotAllProgressives) who are unwilling to compromise even the slightest because, gosh, that would destroy their integrity and that, apparently, is more important than achieving actual progress. And then there was the fascist mentality that really showed its ugly face after Bernie Sanders took a beating on Super Tuesday and a bunch of his supporters started screeching about how he was the only one who could save us from climate change and now we're all doomed and/or how anyone who didn't vote for Bernie didn't care about people dying from a lack of healthcare. It was bonkers. Edit: Doh! I hit enter instead of shift+enter. I want to finish by saying I think this is important to discuss because, unless we on the left acknowledge our own shortcomings, we'll never get the change we want. We'll always be stuck with that "lesser of two evils" choice. We need to learn to stop tripping over our own feet and accept that compromise is NOT a mark on our integrity. We can have both. We have to accept that we, too, are part of the problem. Until we do these things, I fear the right will keep winning elections.

Salvador Limones! Also, the video was great, and I should have a more valuable comment to contribute. But... Yay Salvador!
