Early Access: CO-VID on Kentucky Route Zero

Hey team! I haven't been doing early access videos for CO-VIDs, but I wanted to throw a rough cut online just to see if the outro music flags the copyright bots and figured I'd send it to y'all as long as it's up. No text or graphics yet, but they're gonna be pretty sparing in this video anyway. Also, mild spoilers for Kentucky Route Zero, if you haven't played it.

Kicking around a few names for this one, suggestions welcome!

Early Access: CO-VID on Kentucky Route Zero

Folklore in KR0?

Justus Schmidt

To me, the vid feels like it's about recreating a memory about the story, and that somehow piecing together this memory of the narrative is a story in and of itself. I have no idea how that translates into a title, just rambling along....

Hell yeah Ian, this is so good. I love KRZ, it is one of my fav video games of all time. I think it's one of the most important video games ever made, and honestly this is the only kind of video anyone should really make about the game, which is so personal and so full of different meanings and ambiguity and touching moments that not everyone will experience, but with that thematic through line, to make a video interpreting it in any way outside of what it personally means to you is inauthentic. Kudos

The obvious title suggestion: KRO-VID. But, if not that, the two phrases from the video that jumped out at me were 'under the spell he cast' and 'writing the past in the present.' The latter, I think, is more representative of the thesis of the video, but something about Mr. Wu and the stories you're not sure he told gave me goosebumps. Anyway, great work. I've seen you write a bit elsewhere about this aspect of playing this game and it always gave me that kind of sadness, like nostalgia for an unrealized past, that I could never have that experience - and all I can say is that this video delivers on that emotion.

Richard Jackson

That was... beautiful. I have no thoughts on naming. But I think it would be pretty interesting if you posted a followup, even just a two minute talking head video, serving as an epilogue having since replayed the game again. And also... would you *recommend* playing KR0 the way you suggested? Willingly taking a break of a few months between acts to forget some of the details? Because I feel like I'd love to experience this game in this way, if I can manage to remember to play the next act when the time comes around. No title suggestions; my apologies. But absolutely excellent content.

What a treat. I'm in the process of video editing my own Kentucky Route Zero critique. Looking forward to watching the finished version of this :D

I like this a lot - I do appreciate videogame reviews that try to be objective and informative, but I also really like content like this, that's almost more like gonzo games journalism, that privileges the reviewer telling a story about their experience with the game - rather than a dry (or even a funny) blow-by-blow description of the gameplay itself.

Damn, I want to watch this, but I haven't had the opportunity to play Kentucky Route Zero yet. Eh... I guess some minor spoilers never really hurt.

J. Francis

My title suggestion would be something related to the apparent road motif, that connects the stories from Mr. Wu to the experience of playing Kentucky Route Zero. Maybe... The Long Road in Kentucky? The Ephemeral Route? Amazing video, as always!! :D
