June Update: Results

Hey team! An update on the first of the month, holy butts!

Work/flow

Getting medicated for ADHD took longer than anticipated. First executive dysfunction meant I failed to call my psychopharm for a full week. Then she had to reschedule. Then my insurance held everything up because something got lost in the shuffle and we needed to call the Prior Authentication department but they have like seven Prior Authentication departments and each one would take all our information before discovering that they're the wrong one and transfer us to a different one. My psychopharm had to spend 6-7 hours on the phone before finally getting things cleared. Welcome to American Healthcare, everyone! "Bureaucracy is the price we pay for impartiality," as Stalin said.

But the Concerta came through, and I'm coming up on my two-week anniversary of getting medicated.

It is wild.

I started sending you update messages this week with samples of slides I've been making, because I was finally able to sit and work, and was also able to think "hmm, the patrons might like to see this after so long without content" and just do it instead of getting either overwhelmed or distracted. What may not be clear is that I produced ~200 slides last week. In the months I had spent pecking away at this video, I had only produced 70. And those 200? That was just Wednesday to Friday. And they were 4-6 hours work days.

I know you get a big boost out the gate with these things and there will probably be some regression to the mean. But, right now? This is a game-changer.

I still have some bad work habits I need to unlearn. For so long, my sense has been "when you get in a groove, do not get out of it," so I ignored a lot of other tasks on those three days. It'll take practice to learn that, actually, I can stop work for a bit and pick up where I left off without much trouble now.

This is also my first time working at a desk for more than a few hours since the back injury, and I didn't know where my limits were until I hit them. Turns out: two days! The third day I had pain and had to stop early. This is, thankfully, not a relapse of sciatica, just some lower back pain and stiffness, and my trainer has given me a good compression-and-flexion routine to loosen it back up. Looks like I'm gonna have to pomodoro from now on, stopping periodically to stretch. But things are mostly back to normal today. Gonna be more careful going forward.

With all this in mind: I think I can say with some confidence that the next Alt-Right Playbook will probably go up in July. That is truly exciting.

Since Last We Spoke

Been tackling things other than editing this week while I take care of my back. There are a lot of things that I've needed to do for a while that I had an easier time with - paying old bills, filling out paperwork, sorting through and organizing documents, and other boring stuff.

As I mentioned, the entire Alt-Right Playbook went up to Nebula a little while back. As of Wednesday, I've got the rest of my backlog up to 2018 hosted, including (finally) Lady Eboshi is Wrong. This video has been mirrored on Vimeo for a long time, but there's just no audience there. I'm glad to finally have it somewhere people are likely to see it, as I'm very proud of that video.

What remains is the Joi video, the third Who Shot Guybrush Threepwood?, the CO-VIDs, and Bringing Back What's Stolen. Should have it all online next week.

It's going to be interesting releasing a video now that vids are monetized in two new ways (ads and Nebula). I'm a bit curious what that'll look like.

Starting as I Mean to Go On

So, from these last couple weeks, I think the next stretch of time will be... more of the same? I'm going to keep sending you images and slide counts as I work through the video. And we'll just keep trucking until it's online. With four scripts in the can, I'll probably be editing for a while. We'll see if I want to dive straight into another TARPB or break with some Protagony first.

But that's it for now! Talk to you soon. :D
