January Update: Shortage and Excess

Hey team! Happy February.

The Protagonning

Late update this month because I wanted to get the rough cut of Protagony: Abed up before I wrote you, and then apparently I needed to crash for a week. But here we are! The final edit of the video will go live on Nebula (and to you) on Friday, and then go public on YouTube the following Monday.

This will be the first sponsored video in Innuendo Studios history. Nebula will be the sponsor, in part so they can gather data on my clickthrough rates and establish benchmarks to send to future sponsors. (You will, of course, get the ad-free version.) I've never done an ad-read before and it's a weird experience, but I do support Nebula and am happy to draw more attention to them. That's going to be the rule: I won't take sponsorship from anyone I don't actually have 90 seconds of sincere, positive things to say about.

Podcastination

I have recorded the first interview of a podcast tentatively titled A Third Thing (but might retitle Point B). It's a conversation with Magdalen Rose about how we experience the creative hustle as people with ADHD. Mags just wrote a book and I was, frankly, jealous as shit, and I was curious how she pulled that off with the same obstacle I've been contending with. I still have the edit the audio (and find time to edit the audio) but it you'll be getting it as soon as it's done!

The idea for A Third Thing (or Point B) (or maybe From Zero to One but that might suit a different podcast idea I had a long time ago...) is to talk to people I think are interesting about a specific subject. Like, with so many interview-based podcasts, the guest is also the subject. They are here to talk about themself. But I was more interested in talking to Mags about a thing we both had opinions on. So, to borrow an idea from Donald Hall, two people focused not on each other but a third thing.

I'm interested in setting up more conversations like this, where I use the podcast as an excuse to talk to someone about something I would like to talk to them about but can't make "let's babble about early-90's hip-hop for an hour" happen organically.

I don't have any set schedule for this and it may prove more of a "thing to do when the next video still isn't ready" kinda deal, but I'm excited about it!

This Is Gonna Be A Weird Month

Speaking of ADHD: there is a stimulant shortage and the pharmacy can't tell me when my next bottle of Concerta will arrive, saying it could literally be tomorrow or April. That is... very distressing. Given I have a video to publish, freelance gig to finish, a podcast to edit, this is very badly timed. I am going to have to hope the coping mechanisms I've established over the last year can get me through this stretch, however long it lasts, because I do not want to go back to the degree of scattered I was before I had my meds. I have more tools than I had before, and used these medicated months to sort a lot of my life out, so hopefully I can weather this. But it's gonna be a time.

Anyway, if you wanna see my current experiment in unmasked ADHD, check out my sporadic movie reviews over on Letterboxd!

Comments

Ooof, I just got hit by the Amphetamine shortage today when trying to get a refill, looks like it's been slowly getting worse over the last several months without anyone bothering to try and fix it?

Excited you're working with Nebula! I've enjoyed the platform.
