quantifica overhaul

hey team,

have decided to forego the video portion of quantifica. 1. I liked the idea of doing them as youtube shorts in case I ever made them public, but on a phone the text gets hard to read and shorts puts too much crap on the screen to see all the data, 2. doing the video component felt more time than it was worth, and 3. it no longer sparked joy.

so I'ma do the media consumption portion of quantifica in the same image series I post the financials. here are this month's media digests, as well as the previous two re-done in this format. I've also gone back and redone the old quantifica posts so you can find them in sequence there, should you stroll down memory lane.

cheers,

-I

That's fair. When I first read it I loved the questions it presents about adaptation and accepting the need to change in order to thrive, but the aliens being like "You say you don't want this, but really, I know you do." is just... YIKES.

yeahhh, I get that in many ways it's ABOUT dubious consent, but I felt a disjoint with Butler about when and how it was engaged with. some of the engagement I really respected and then sometimes it was just COMPLETELY unmentioned, and that was not a good time for me.

You abandoned Lilith's Brood!!! This was (previously) my fave of Butler's work, but then I re-read it last year and um...the dubious consent made me SO UNCOMFORTABLE that I revised that feeling. I also wondered how I missed that in the first reading of it, but I read it for the first time in 2020 so maybe lock-down had something to do with it.

Becky Chambers is good for my mental health. I am re-reading the Wafarer series for the third time right now.

I DID!!

Uhhhhh, you read "A Psalm for the Wild-Built" :D I came across that book roughly a year ago, and have since fallen in love with basically everything Becky Chambers has published so far xD I hope you enjoyed it, too :3

Love to see people go "this no longer serves my goals and happiness. Bye!" and axe it. Guard your time fiercely. Ruthlessly!
