Early Access: List of Songs that Represent "Smart Music"
Added 2024-06-04 22:20:48 +0000 UTChey team! sorry for the quietude of late. this silly little project that was gonna be a weekend lark took way, way longer than expected, and it's only partly because everything is more work than I expect! my life is exploding of late and the doing of things has been a struggle.
but! here is early access to this absolutely ridiculous thing I've been making. there will be minor tweaks before it goes public, and I'll be pitching it to Nebula for sponsorship presently, so it could be your-eyes-only for a little while.
quantifica for this month coming soon!

2024-06-19 12:42:17 +0000 UTCI didn’t know what to think this of this video but I then got to the Bach segment and I now give this video a “plup fish emoji”/10

2024-06-09 08:01:40 +0000 UTCComing back up say now when I hear these pieces anywhere else I'm thinking of this video. Brought to you by the Kyoto coffeeshop that just played Gymnopédie

2024-06-08 23:13:55 +0000 UTCthe Fur Elise/Dorian Electra bit right at the end fucking killed me lmao. Banger.

2024-06-06 04:27:57 +0000 UTCyes, I wanted to end with Spiegel im Spiegel as, like, the video essayist's white whale, so I invented a structure

2024-06-05 18:27:06 +0000 UTCI have laughed out loud way more times than is reasonable, and I'm not even halfway through. The Plup mention killed me.

2024-06-05 15:17:27 +0000 UTCSee, this really grew on me on second watch, and with the short introduction! Plus the conclusion really nails it. And I still like all of those pieces of music. :)

2024-06-05 11:10:01 +0000 UTCI've never heard of "drillbit order". Is this something you came up with?

2024-06-05 10:58:19 +0000 UTCThat’s fair! For the record, the second word is pronounced closer to „eh-LEE-seh“. If you want any help with German pronunciation (here or in the future), feel free to let me know ✌️

2024-06-05 10:25:13 +0000 UTC*Chef's kiss* Now that is some prime-rib Millennial snark! Though, in the spirit of generational turnover... how could you discus Duo Des Fleurs without a clip from 1983's "The Hunger"? Do none yet weep for Bowie?

2024-06-05 01:13:27 +0000 UTCnot intentional, I just don't speak German and am doing my best with what the How To Pronounce youtubes tell me!

2024-06-05 00:43:19 +0000 UTCVery cool! Since you talked about the ordering in the earlier post, I thought it was introduced in a nicely subtle way in the intro, and the conclusion made it make sense in a way. Really nice. Question: was it intentional that your pronunciation of Für Elise strays rather far from the German? 😅

2024-06-04 23:17:29 +0000 UTCThis went from "Nice, but feels really niche" to "Oh this is excellent".

2024-06-04 23:07:00 +0000 UTClmaoooo I love this video. Like a lot of your work I want to recommend it to so many friends, but I have a feeling most of my broader acquaintances would miss a lot of what's happening in it. The focus on "what video essayists use" + "what the aims of smart music are" is a little flashlight into a brick of the wall is what culture even is. Reminds me of when I'd call some music "from the "World" section of CDs in a Borders" (which is now extremely dated lol). Thanks for sharing!
