Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 14 REACTION!! (full watch along)

I can certainly see how you'd feel that way and I can say I haven't loved her depiction either. I was able to move past it for a few reasons. One, I know the actress (also from 1923) is pushing 30. Two, the ex-wife's character I thought was over the top and annoying at first, but as episodes have gone by you have have seen more depth and background to the character and it made me care about her more. There have been moments with the daughter's character where it has shown the beginnings of that and I expert there will be more development there. Three, it was Billy Bob's character's interaction with his family that actually made me like his character.

Overall, I was fine with the ending and found the restoring of the land to the reservation and the funeral all really moving. I do think these last few eps were a bit messy and some of season 5 early on too. The writing started to feel forced in certain respects, particularly Jamie. I'm Team Beth all the way. Honestly, even knowing he regretted it, I don't think what Jamie did without giving her a choice is something I'd ever forgive either, but I didn't like how they seemed to force moving Jamie into full baddie territory. Like, when John turns his back on him, humiliates him by not saying he's running for Governor, on top of Beth's constant hatred, no wonder he turned away from them too. He was weak but I feel like they pushed suddenly to make him the villain, when Beth is hardly a saint. It felt rather lazy writing wise to me. And I did tire of all the Travis stuff in those last few eps, which was just a bit too self-indulgent for me. Anyway, loved the world and the characters and looking forward to continuing 1883 with you, which is still my favourite of the three.

Landman is the only Sheridan show I'm not sold on. I only watched two eps, but the depiction of his daughter really wasn't for me and has put me off a bit. All the others have been great though.

Victoria E (vickster5001)

Same. Unless 1923 really delivers in season 2, 1883 will always be my favourite show in this world.

Victoria E (vickster5001)

Very curious what other Yellowstone spinoffs will be coming in the future

Stanley Livingston

Yes prequels!! 1923 season 2 Feb 23!!! Cannot wait

Stanley Livingston

I am fine with the ending. 1883 will always be my favorite.

Andrea Bunting

... and the Yellowstone prequels!

Lioness is very good if you like military dramas. The cast is outstanding.

Megan

That’s a fair assumption and no we aren’t watching the new Dexter show.

Nikki & Steven

Tulsa King is fun. Lioness is the only one I haven't seen. Mayor of Kingstown is good, but it is so grim and bleak it's hard to get excited about it sometimes.

Tim P.

this show lost so much momentum and became a mess at the end. So much so they needed to put a 5 minute country music video in the finale.

Paul T Hewes

Yay! Now we can concentrate on Ted Lasso!

There is so much juice to making a young John Dutton story, arguably more of stories to tell than yellowstone did. And I would love the chance to get to know his wife cause she would be co-lead. Young loyd is the cherry on top

A show with the young John Dutton could be interesting. Maybe could answer some questions I have. Like I still to this day think there is a deeper reason why Jamie was adopted by John and why Jamie’s mother was important to John. Like could she be secretly related to John or something . Maybe I’m giving the writers too much credit but this is the theory I always had in my head lol.

John’s ending may not have happened as originally planned but I am so happy and relieved the story of the ranch ended how it was always supposed to. I can’t wait for more prequel stuff. And there might be a spin off with Beth and Rip I hear. I say this as a big fan of them I feel like their story should end with this show. Let them have their peace and happy ending. But that said I’m sure I’ll still end up checking it out if it happens. As for the 6666 spin off if Travis is the main character on that I prob ain’t watching it lol.

ProphecyGirl_

So i assume a poll for the replacement show wont go up till you're done with the prequels? Also will you guys be reacting to Dexter Original Sin?

SAMCRO_89

yeah, I'm enjoying Landman quite a bit. Tulsa King as well. I watched the first season of Mayor of Kingstown but haven't finished it

I imagine the storyline with the pipeline would have seen a lot more screen time in the second half of the season, were it not for the issues with Costner's availability. So they shortened the season and wrapped it up as quickly as they could. there are two spinoffs of Yellowstone following the montana setting, previously titled "2024" but now titled "The Madison" starring Michelle Pfeiffer, and a Beth/Rip spinoff that is unnamed as yet. "1923" starts airing season 2 in february. then there's "1944" which has been greenlit, but not much is known about that one. "6666" was announced a long while ago but is currently on hold. Matthew McConaughey was in talks to be in a series but its unknown which one or what that status is.

Other than John, I liked mostly secondary characters in this show. I also really liked Kayce. But Loyd, Moe, Jimmy, Rip. For me, the best thing about this show was the wilderness, the bunkhouse & John Dutton. Gonna miss this show so much. I would love if they did a prequel with young John. The actor they chose for the flashbacks was amazing. I hope we get a lot more shows on the ranch

My thoughts on the finale and last handful of episodes. My apologies if this gets longwinded. Regarding how they handled John's death on screen. There may have been some influence from Sheridan and Costner's deteriorated relationship, but I think mainly they had to just get it out of the way, right away. One, so they could move on with the story in the little time they had. Two, because almost everyone else in the world tuning in for this show knew about Costner not coming back already and pretty much knew it was coming. If it didn't happen right away then everyone in the audience would have been so focused on when it would happen that nothing else would matter. I get your take from how you viewed it, but that isn't the place most of the audience was coming from. It's a shame real world drama had to impact the story. Costner not coming back I think shortened everything by a couple seasons. Not saying he is a bad guy in this, just that from a show perspective it dealt them a a bad hand. I honestly think the end for the characters and the ranch was what he planned all along. He just had to take what was probably a two season story and streamline it down to a handful of episodes to get there. I think story threads that were cut short or awkwardly executed was because of this. Colby's death sucked, but it made sense to me in the final episode. There is supposed to be a 6666's spin off with Jimmy and Teeter that has long been in the works. I think Colby's death was in part to give Teeter a reason to leave and go there. Just my opinion. There was some self indulgent stuff with Travis's story toward the end, but I guess it is Sheridan's story so he can have a little fun if he wants. Much like having all of his real cowboy buddies appearing in the show. I believe Travis's ranch/house was actually Sheridan's but I could be wrong. All in all, I wish they had had more time to do it as planned, but that's life. I still think they executed the landing a lot better than some other series (cough cough... Game of Thrones.. cough cough). I was happy with the ending. I look forward to seeing whatever the Beth and Rip spinoff will be, the 6666's, Yellowstone 1923 season 2, Yellowstone 1944, and whatever else ties in to this universe. It's all very good in my opinion. If you continue picking Sheridan show's to react to I don't think you'll regret it. Landman is also awesome by the way.

Tim P.

i hear Beth and Rip are dong a spinoff show. not sure if it is 100% but it seems like it

Annika

A near perfect resolution for the story. Thanks for the watch along! Peace!

When rip said stay close I don't need anybody reading these tags he's talking about automatic tag readers. They're rectangular devices that aim out at all 4 corners of a police cruiser if they're equipped with em. He wanted Lloyd to follow close to keep a trailing cop from reading Jaimies tags by using Lloyd's vehicle to block the tags from Jaimies vehicle which rip was driving. Might have had no front tags not all states require them so no need for someone to drive in front.

I'm assuming that Beth likely feels at this point (since Jamie is dead), there not really a reason to telling Rip about the abortion and that Jamie is the reason she can't have kids. It's not going to change anything and would just give Rip unnecessary anger and pain. He's known all along that she can't have kids and he's been fine with that. He told her he just needs HER. I'm looking forward to the Beth/Rip spinoff that was just announced last week (also supposed to have Carter and Lloyd, too).

Great analysis of the show at the end. Like you said could it have been better… absolutely but they did the best they could with what they had. I think if the 2-3 episodes leading up to the finale could have had less filler material (and Travis) it would’ve stuck the landing better. Also like you mentioned it doesn’t break your top 5 shows which is overall unfortunate because you have to imagine with Coster still there it could’ve finished as one of the best shows ever. Great show cast and cast either way. I will say though 1883 and 1923 are phenomenal and those 2 along may break your top 5. Really looking forward to seeing your reactions to them going forward

Shane

just curious, in the last episode they sold everything for like 30 million, since they sold the land, they didnt have to pay the inheritance tax, so did beth and kasey split that? i mean with that kind of money they can keep their ranches going for quite a while.. i mean dosent effect the story at all, was just curious... and i think having Elsa in the last of the episode was great.

Terry Davis

They’re doing a Beth/Rip spinoff 😁

Skylar Merrell

I wonder what the original script or ending was going to be?

Dallas Adams

end of an era.
