Ted Lasso Season 1 Episode 9 REACTION!! (full watch along)

Comments

Rebecca's apology to Ted, is such a great example of a true, heartfelt and sincere apology.

Iben Frederiksen

Rebecca mentions a few "women in football" in her talk with Ted at the beginning of the episode. Posh Spice is, of course, Victoria from Spice Girls, who married David Beckham. She also mentions Karren Rita Brady, Baroness Brady - the character of Rebecca was based on her. She is a British former managing director of Birmingham City F.C., and current vice-chairman of West Ham United F.C. She was 23 years old when she started work as managing director of Birmingham City F.C. in 1993. The first time she got on the team bus, a football player said "I can see your tits from here". She replied β€œWhen I sell you to Crewe, you won't be able to see them from there will you?" She sold the player shortly afterward. Β In 1995, Brady married Canadian footballer Paul Peschisolido, who played for Birmingham City for two seasons. They have two children and they're still together today πŸ’• ❀️❀️❀️

That is the main point of my comment. He was clueless.........about football/soccer in general. That was the genius of the ads. That this simple idea could be turned into such a thought provoking, life changing series based on the initially clueless character.

"Bring it on" from 2000, the best cheerleader movie ever "Stick it" from 2006, one of the best sports movies

the original funny skits are still on youtube. They make Ted Lasso look like a very clueless guy. I am so glad they decided, years later, to change that premise.

Nikki your daughter will be 13 soon? Have you watched "Inside Out 2", the movie perfectly describing what is happening inside the head of a 13 year old girl?

I am not sure if I mentioned this before but because of your post episode comments I think it is worth noting again especially for those that don't know. The premise for Ted Lasso was created by Jason Sudeikis, Brenden Hunt (Beard), and Bill Lawrence as promotional videos to promote The Premier League on NBC. I lived in England as a child and feel in love with football and was excited by the League being shown State side. I had seen the ads on their first airings. The ads were very funny and for the most part cover about the first 10-15 minutes of Episode 1. When I found out about the show my very first thought was I really enjoyed the promos and thought they were very funny (fan of Sudeikis from SNL) but how will they be able to sustain that sentiment over the course of a TV series and avoid running the risk of it getting tiresome?? Well of course we all got the answer to that question! Each character is so well written with so many layers and humanity and when a show impacts the human spirit the way this one does, it makes a person want to get other people to see it so they can feel the same things we each feel when we watch it. That is why these reaction videos by creators are so important! Your reaction (and other content creators) will sometimes validity that what we felt was real and worth the investment of time to watch. Of course not all movies and tv shows will be liked by all but when it is this the good the majority will usually agree and that is a good feeling.

That scene when Rupert shows up to tell Rebecca that he's having a child, he's being so vicious, it's just terrible and shows how abusive he is, people pay attention to physical abuse, but emotional abuse, that can be overlooked and is also incredibly damaging. I really liked, instead of doubling down on her vengeance and anger after Rupert's visit she went straight to Ted and told him the truth. I also love that scene of Ted forgiving her instantly, so many people would want the person to apologize several times, to be angry, to yell, to see the person suffer before they got forgiven or to never forgive them, but not Ted he just forgave her instantly, it was a great scene and something I honestly wish was practiced a little more in the world, even though it can be difficult. I'm glad that Rebecca also apologized to Higgins and got him back and that he came back without the facial hair. Also, yes Roy's niece Phoebe is adorable.

I hope we can all be as understanding as Ted. I know I certainly struggle with it and hold grudges and get angry, and I tend to fly off the handle. Every time I watch this show, it just makes me want to reassess and be better. It's genuinely the best thing about this show, it makes you want to just try to be a better person. ETA: Also, find you someone who looks at you the way Nikki looks at Steven during every intro to every video.
