I took time to comment on this. This show is history forgotten. When Elsa says she is afraid of being forgotten I genuinely believe it is not just Taylor's story, it is his life as a cowboy. He has made that clear in all the memories of those who have passed while making this entire series. The cowboy life is disappearing in this country. The land has been stolen and the future generations will never know or understand this. Its heartbreaking really. As for Elsa she has outlived everyone. She has a gentle soul that is more curious and the way she looks at the world is nothing like we look at the world today. She has no fear. James nailed it when he said the way she loves really is incredible. Think of Beth. She loves that same way. Her and Beth are so connected even decades later. Beth has no fear other than losing her Dad. The scene where Beth is sitting on the porch and the wind chimes get on her nerves, she blows them away. Sits back down and a bird lands on the railing singing. She looks over and glares at it. The bird takes off and she says smart bird. I wonder if it is intentionally written to connect the likeness of these women. I am sure it is intentional when What is on the beach. When I see a hummingbird I see a tiny creature with a fierce spirit that is very protective. Its speed is like lightning. If Elsa came back to visit Shay, she would have been a hummingbird. Shay knew it was her spirit. Overall I have watched this show a lot. I was so anxious to get you guys to watch it before Yellowstone ended. It truly makes you feel Johns worry about saving it. The history this family has is incredible. I am not happy, about the lack of awards this show has been denied. It truly deserves recognition on so many levels. all the Best actors awards, the cinematography, the score. I find it truly sad that it is so underrated. But then I think.... Its their loss if they don't watch it. Not mine. Thank you guys for watching this. I knew Nikki was going to be a wreck. I can also tell when that hubby of hers is getting emotional. Lol. Its okay Steven. You are clearly a great girl dad. I wished my father knew he has a daughter. I don't even know if he is still living. Thanks for all you share with us.

Great show. Probably better than Yellowstone because it was only 1 season. I would assume shows get drawn out when they have to cover multiple seasons instead of focusing all your storytelling to 10 episodes. BTW I believe Montana was a territory before it officially became a state so it was still technically called Montana back then.

I know this is fiction, but I really wished families would keep a written record for the new generations to know where they come from and don't forget the struggles they went threw.

Right lol I had to google it and found a family tree.. but the broken piece is that we don’t know who was Yellowstone John Dutton’s grandfather! Is it the child of Jack (son of baby John in 1883) or Spencer (the son born after 1883). Ugh.

Kiwigirljacks

I'm surprised more people don't catch on to that. Not sure if it's the exact same tree but it was definitely a callback to the first/second episode of Yellowstone.

Me too

I ugly cried with you. I believe Sam had died that year later… and Elsa went there to meet him… together again, forever. I’ve watched 1923 and I was confused about the relationships in terms of who is who in the succession line lol but I googled and found a family tree with explanations as to who is who in relation to each other.

Not a parent either, but this show wrecked me in so many ways. It also moved me, deeply, in so many ways. I lost my father 6 years ago, at 27, and another parent like figure, my grandma, a few years ago. And I have to say, other than Six Feet Under, this show has the best and most poignant take on losing someone you love, and on death and dying in general. I've gotten several people to watch this, (some with me, some on their own), and they were usually a) reluctant to watch it, because it's still pretty under the radar, but b) without fail, always amazed and touched by it. It was such a joy to watch you guys experience it and to have seen it amaze and touch you too.

As a proud loving Dad of 2 daughters, I had to tap out halfway through. I forgot how tough this ep was 🥲

1923 still has to conclude, but at this point, 1883 remains for me the best of the Yellowstone shows. The writing, the way it's shot, the score, the acting. Everything about it is so deeply emotional. It's just beautiful and seeing it before season 5 did enrich the history for me. Plus when they had the last two funerals in that spot, it hit harder. I also appreciated the echo of the first episode of Yellowstone, when John D holds his son Lee against the tree. I always recommend 1883 to people, as it can stand alone as simply a superb miniseries.

Lioness is 🔥

I’m just out here ready for Taylor to fill in that tree! We need to all place bets on who turns out to be grandpa Dutton!

Ashley

1923 here we come ! :)

Yellowstone is good, 1923 is amazing, but this is Taylor Sheridan’s masterpiece. Its absolutely incredible television and it was a joy to see it again with you guys.

Joe

"Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be lovlier than you are now. We will never be here again." This quote hit me hard!

Andrea Bunting

Get that family tree ready once 1923 starts lol

Walt

Im convinced the hummingbird at the end was elsa with shae and that that the ending is sam waiting for her in the afterlife and he was killed as well defending his land.

Jesse

I’m not a parent but I did watch 1883 with my mom and it was a very emotional journey for both of us! We initially watched the shows out of order but have since watched in timeline order (1883, 1923, Yellowstone) The prequel shows just hit differently and I, personally, prefer them to Yellowstone. Also- I don’t know if you guys caught it, but James and Elsa stopping to sit against Elsa’s chosen tree and James saying that they will stop to rest a bit mirrors the first episode of Yellowstone when John brings Lee to the family graveyard to bury him after he was killed. And there is a similar shot of John staring at a bird on the ground as Elsa had right before she passed.

Nicole

oh gods this is gonna be tough. I'll come back in after I watch. This broke me the first time I watched and probably one of my favorite episodes of all time, because it's so emotive. And the acting is incredible.

Ashley

,,, & Landman!

PopeyeNelson

She died safe around people who loved her, in peace. That is more than most people could ever get. Her parents did everything and tried their best. In the words of Achilles from Troy "The Gods envy us, they envy us because we are mortal, because every moment could be our last" life is beautiful that way, the only way to truly live in the moment is when you are constantly reminded of your mortality, like Elsa was during this hard journey.

Such a incredible show. Cannot wait for y’all to jump into 1923. Extremely good as well. And season 2 of 1923 comes out in Feb 23rd! Just perfect timing.

Stanley Livingston

As heartbreaking as this series is, I find an inordinate amount of peace in myself when I finish watching it. It honestly heals my soul. So glad you both enjoyed it so much and we all appreciate sharing your journey watching it as well.

Bring on the ugly cry...

Thanks Nikki and Steven. I binge watched this Taylor Sheridan masterpiece when it first came out and could never watch it again. I am now with you two, and it's just as powerful. Nikki, never change!
