Draw Steel Lore Q&A

Hey folks! Matt Colville at your service. It's time for our monthly Patron Q&A with Dael Kingsmill!

This one is going to be a little different. It's just me and Dael answering your LORE questions about Orden & The Timescape. We've done one of these before, you can check out the stream here.

It's also different because this is going to be a public post! So anyone can ask a question! The livestream will still be Patrons-only, but then some weeks later that stream will be uploaded to YouTube for everyone.

So for those of you read this from BEYOND THE PATREON, feel free to ask anything about the setting of Draw Steel, just be, you know...polite or whatever. This is not an opportunity to be a wang or bring out your pet axe to grind. No idea what that would BE, people in the wider Draw Steel community are incredibly chill, but like all our online spaces, we heavily moderate people who are being wangs.

As with all our Q&As, Dael will go through all the responses and look for those Qs she thinks would be fun to A. There's no way to answer all or even most of the questions! I may respond directly to some questions here on the page? But a lot of unanswered questions are also sort of unanswerable? Meaning, the question doesn't make sense based on our assumptions and it would just take too long to explain the difference between that person's assumptions and our assumptions.

If you have NON lore-related questions, email hello@mcdmproductions.com, you will get a speedy and definitive reply!

See you in the livestream!

No the Caelian Empire was an empire of human cultures.

The average person in Capital lives a life basically the same as the average citizen of Florence in the early 1400s. Or London around 1600. Think about what kind of information the *average* person knew back then. They did not have universal public schooling, they didn't have mass produced books or movable type. They know about as much about other worlds as your average citizen in 1600s London did about the planet Saturn which is...almost nothing. That's not because these people are stupid, they're just as intelligent as you or me. They just knew different things. They were experts on the world around them.

Are most people in Capital (and other major cultural centers in Vasloria) aware of the other areas of the Timescape? Or are the other planes exclusively known by scholars, high intellectuals, and those who have actually traveled to them? Is this somewhat hidden knowledge? Would the appearance of a time raider shock a typical resident of Capital? Does Ajax have ambitions that extend into the other planes?

Last minute hope: did any species other than humans face resettlement under the Caelin empire? For example do we see Radenwights of all types world wide or are there local variations?
