Chapter 22 [Vault]

Title - The Enlightened One

Dying wasn’t a plan I had, but here I am. I died, from what? Hell if I know. I wasn’t all that special all things considered, your average 17-year-old who had a deep love for all things fiction, had no luck with women, and very little care for school. No parents, siblings, parents, or any of that crap.

Now that I am here, in this seemingly infinite darkness, with nothing, not even a speck of light. The most I can do now is to wait for something to happen, maybe a fanfic-like situation…I wish.

I didn’t have to wait for very long before a game-like notification appeared in my vision.

‘Well…that’s quite the list’ The situation is exactly like those fanfictions I have read so many of. There are a lot of choices on the list, and a lot of them are pretty good choices. I have knowledge of just about all of them, but there are only four on this list that I’d be willing to start in.

That being DxD, RWBY, Naruto, and MHA. The choice for me, was pretty obvious. Pressing on [Naruto].

I watched as the screen changed into something new. This time it turned into a wheel, with words above it.

[The first roll of the universe system is free. This spin will also decide the user's appearance, base species, and a couple of other things]

‘So it’s a system huh…not bad. I would have just preferred wishes, but I guess I can’t complain about this’ I thought with a grin, before pressing on the word “Spin” that was blinking brightly.

[Buddha (ROR) - The Enlightened One]

‘....Well…damn’ I thought stupidly. The fact that I got Buddha, my favorite character from Record of Ragnarok, was a shock to me. There is also the small fact that he is pretty fucking strong. In the world of Naruto, he’d be like…top 5, potentially even higher, I don’t know how strong the top 5 strongest actually are.

[Beginning assimilation. Warning, this will be painful]

‘Wait wha’ “ARGHH” Without warning I was hit with the worst pain I have ever experienced in my entire life. It was far worse than anything else I can imagine, it was like I was burning alive from the inside out, all while having the worst headache ever, and all my bones rapidly snapping.

The pain continued for what felt like forever but was actually only a short while. When it finally stopped, I groaned out “Fuck that hurt”. Stopping my complaint, I watched as a new screen appeared.

[Beginning reincarnation into a random Naruto universe! Enjoy your new life, Buddha]

“Wait you could at least w-” I couldn’t continue my sentence before everything went black.

[Location - ??????] [POV: 3rd]

After Buddha spoke those final words, he disappeared from the dark void. It felt as if he was being pulled into a tube or something of the sort. As everything went dark, the strange feeling soon ceased. As he reappeared in a new place.

A soft groan escaped his lips, as he slowly began to sit up. Getting onto his feet, Buddha slowly looked around, taking in his new surroundings. He was completely surrounded by large trees, and it was currently day.

‘That wasn’t very nice of…whatever that was’ Buddha thought with a sigh, before looking over his new form.

‘Hmm, not bad at all. Might get some attention from others, but I guess it could have been worse, I could have been a trap’ Buddha shivered slightly at the end, before clenching his fist with a smile. He could literally feel the power within himself, it was more than even he was expecting.

Buddha was cut off from his inspection of his form, by a new notification appearing in his vision.

[Congratulations on completing your reincarnation! This message is made in order to explain the uses of the system you have been given! Below are the functions of the system]

[Status - Keeps track of the user's status. Including their name, species, attained characters, current universe, and a few more things]

[Universe wheel - A wheel used to decide the universe you can gain the powers of characters from. You can only gain a maximum of 3 characters from each universe, with the limit being decided when the universe is first chosen. These characters can be attained through the next function. Should the user gain the same universe again, then they can achieve three characters from that universe again]

[Universe Character Wheel - A wheel spun once the user consumes a universe character ticket. Can give the user a random character from that universe, which includes individual powers, species, and more. All characters are above a certain lower limit, allowing the user to only get characters of a certain minimum power]

[Quest - The primary way to gain universe character wheel tickets. By completing quests, the user can gain universe character wheel tickets. These quests are usually quite difficult, are completely optional, and are not at all forced upon the user. Mattering on the user's current universe from the universe wheel, the user can receive more than 1 universe character wheel ticket from the quest]

[Multiverse/Omniverse Travel - Allows the user to travel to a new universe within the multiverse/omniverse once the user completes a certain amount of quests, or is in the current universe for a certain amount of time. The user may bring others with them and can return to previous universes whenever they wish. Time is paused when in other universes]

‘Huh…not bad. But the usage of the word “universe” is kind of annoying’ Buddha thought, noting how many times the system had put the word “universe” in the notification.

[Understood. Universe Character tickets will now be known as UCT’s]

‘That’s a lot better’ Buddha nodded, happy with the change the system made.

[Now that the user understands the functions of the system, please spin the universe wheel to select the first universe you will receive characters from]

Hearing this Buddha hummed, before pressing the word “Spin” again.

‘Well, that’s a little disappointing…I guess it could have been worse. Plus aura could be neat, being Buddha would probably make it a lot stronger too’ Buddha thought with a shrug. He was already plenty strong, so he wasn’t too mad. He wasn’t going to sit still and not train, but he also wasn’t going to grind like crazy for weeks on end. It also doesn’t help that he can’t use chakra of this universe, not until he receives a character with chakra at least.

‘Yeah, that’s about what I was expecting. Not really much to go off of, but I already have an idea of how strong I am. Plus the techniques I have are more than enough for most fights, pure enlightenment eighth consciousness alone is enough for most fights. Being able to see moments into the future would do that’ Buddha thought with a thoughtful hum as he read his status, before shrugging in the end.

Beginning to walk, he had an idea of which way to go, just by following his instincts.

He walked for a while before eventually he found a dirt road, smiling, he began to walk in farther into the forestry area while following the road. He knew that Konoha was surrounded by a forest, thus, he knew that he probably needed to go deeper in. His instincts and senses aided in this as well.

Continuing to walk, he eventually found himself in front of the famous gate of Konoha. ‘Looks better in the anime’ Buddha thought with a bored look on his face.

Walking towards the two gate guards, he noticed the sleeping Kotetsu and the serious-looking Izumo. Upon getting close enough, Izumo put on a smile and looked up “What can we do for you toda-” Izumo stopped as he looked up at the tall, 6’4 man. Buddha’s clothes were also…unique to say the least.

“Sup, I wanna become a citizen of Konoha” Buddha said nonchalantly. Hearing this Izumo turned to the sleeping Kotetsu and slapped him upside the head.

“Hey what was that for-” Kotetsu stopped as he noticed Buddha. Izumo leaned into Kotetsu’s ear and whispered “he wants to become a citizen” hearing this Kotetsu looked at his friend before glancing at Buddha, and back to his friend.

“Alright, sign this form. You’ll have to get accepted by the Hokage himself. But as long as you don’t do anything bad, then you should be fine” Kotetsu said, handing Buddha a pen and paper.

Raising an eyebrow at this, Buddha looked down at the paper and read it. ‘Looks simple enough. Asks where I’m from, my name, age, gender, and all that. As well as if I have any sort of training in chakra or taijutsu’

Signing the paper was fairly easy for Buddha, the only part he had to really make stuff up on, was where he was from. He simply put down that he was from the middle of nowhere within the land of fire, and lived alone with his parents until they passed away.

Handing the papers back to Kotetsu, he looked them over before Izumo leaned in and read them. He raised an eyebrow at the name and age, which Buddha put 17, as he technically was still 17, even if this body probably wasn’t. Gods were weird like that.

“You’re seventeen?” Izumo asked in surprise and a hint of suspicion.

“Yep, I get the whole I look older than I am thing a lot” Buddha said with a shrug. The two guards looked at one another, before eventually nodding, neither could sense any sort of lie coming from him. So stamping the form, they filed it away so that it could be sent to the Hokage later for acceptance or denial.

“For now you’ll have a temporary pass into Konoha until your citizenship is accepted or denied. In the case of acceptance, someone will come to you to give you the news, and in the case of denial, you will have to leave Konoha. Due to you having experience in Taijutsu, you can also enroll in shinobi academy should you become a fully-fledged citizen. Usually, it only takes two or three days to be accepted or denied” Izumo explained.

“What age do you graduate from the academy?” Buddha asked as he was 17 right now, meaning this was one of the differences between canon.

“All shinobi graduate at 16 now, due to some laws the 4th Hokage has put into place. You can join as a late bloomer due to your small age difference” Izumo said, while reaching into a box and pulling out what looked like a small I.D. Before he wrote some things down on it and handed it to Budda.

“Your temporary pass” Buddha looked at the I.D, before looking at the two guards and speaking “Thank you”

“No problem kid, welcome to Konoha!” Kotetsu said with a cheerful smile, as Buddha walked into Konoha itself.

As Buddha walked off, Izumo looked at Kotetsu before speaking “Make sure to mark his paper as a person of interest. With how unique he is, I’m sure he’s going to gather some attention” Kotetsu nodded at this.

Within Konoha, Buddha was currently walking through the streets with no care in the world, all while being stared at by most of the female populace, and some of the men as well.

‘Looks like canon in this world is quite a bit different. If what I am assuming is correct, then there’s a good chance that Minato is alive at the least. I hope my guess is wrong, but this is probably one of those cliche neglected/abused Naruto/Naruko situations’ Buddha thought with a sigh. He wasn’t really a fan of innocent kids being abused or neglected, so he was hoping he was wrong, but he had a feeling he wasn’t.

‘I also don’t have any money, which is a little annoying, but I’m a god so I don’t need any of that crap’ Buddha thought, inwardly shrugging over the problem. He was sure it would naturally solve itself in the future.

Buddha continued to walk through the streets, before stopping as someone bumped into him at rather high speeds. The person stumbled back and fell onto their butt, causing Budda to glance at them.

On the ground was a short black-haired teen, with spiky hair.

‘...It is definitely one of those neglect/abuse situations’ Buddha thought with an inward groan, as he heard the shout of a taller redhead woman.

“Menma! Watch where you’re going!” The red-haired woman said, that Buddha recognized as Kushina Uzumaki.

Buddha glanced and noticed a third girl staring at him, a large blush covering her face. “S-so hot”

“It’s not my fault Mom! The idiot was in my way!” Menma replied with a scoff. Buddha hearing all of this just sighed inwardly and questioned ‘Why me’.

Kushina gave Menma a death glare, shutting him up, before turning to the tall, and very attractive man “I’m so sorry about him. He’s a bit of a brat” Kushina gave another glare at the end.

Buddha hearing this sighed “It’s fine” Buddha said while waving it off, before beginning to walk off. ‘At least she isn’t too bad’ He thought, as Kushina still seemed half decent.

“Oh, Mom! Mito’s got a crush again!” Menma said, loudly at that. Causing Mito to blush and glare at him before smacking him straight on the side of the head “Shut up you idiot!”

“Are you new here?” Kushina said, asking Buddha before he walked off. Buddha inwardly groaned again, before turning back to her.

“Yep, just got my temporary citizenship today” Buddha replied. Hearing this Mito leaned in, and asked “Where are you from?” She wanted to know about the mysterious handsome man.

“I lived alone with my parents, away from any village towards the border of the land of fire” Buddha replied, using his made-up background.

Hearing this Mito looked even more interested in him, but was caught off by Menma “Hey weirdo, what’s your name! And how old are you!” Hearing this Budda sighed as he really just wanted to leave this conversation.

“Buddha, 17” Buddha replied, only to be met with the shocked looks from the three. None of them expected him to be so young, Mito upon hearing this was inwardly cheering in happiness ‘YES! He’s my age!’

Before Menma could reply, a man’s voice cut them off “Who’s this?” Glancing towards the voice, Buddha inwardly knew even more that it was exactly what she was expecting.

Standing there was Minato Namikaze, Hokage outfit and all.

“Dad!” Mito happily said, practically flying into the man as she gave him a hug. Kushina smiled and replied “He’s new to Konoha, his name is Buddha”

Hearing the name, Minato raised an eyebrow, before turning to him with a kind smile “It’s nice you meet you, Buddha. I’m Minato, the current Hokage” Shaking his hand, Buddha replied “Nice to meet you Minato”

Hearing the usage of his first name, he blinked slightly in surprise before smiling. “It was nice to meet you Buddha, but we have something to do. Don’t we honey?” Minato said turning to Kushina who blinked as her eyes widened “Ramen!”.

Almost immediately the three raced off but not before Mito said “Bye Buddha!” Minato chuckled before following them, leaving Buddha standing there, wondering what in the hell just happened.

‘What even was that…now I gotta find Naruto or Naruko or whatever. Knowing the trope, they’re probably in the training ground somewhere, training with Kurama, who they already know and have befriended’

Continuing to walk around, he noted some familiar faces. Before eventually he found a seemingly abandoned training ground, that he had a feeling was what he was looking for. Effortlessly hopping onto a tree nearby, he hopped tree to tree, and eventually he found what he was looking for.

(This but she’s got the whiskers Naruto does in canon)

‘Hmm, her eyes are pretty neat looking’ Buddha noted, noticing that they were a red color. ‘Probably from Kurama’

‘I had expected that to be harder. But I guess it is the starter quest for a reason’ Sitting on the branch, with his back against the tree, he silently watched the girl train.

‘She’s actually not bad…probably High-Chunnin to Low-Jonin level, probably more like mid to high Jonin, if she went all out at least. That’s also not including Kurama if she can even use his tails. If this is anything like those fanfics, then she probably only has the soul and body, and not the tails…which makes no sense, but that’s fanfic logic for you’ Buddha thought watching as she trained in kenjutsu.

“Who’s there!?” ‘Well…looks like she noticed me’

That’s the end of the chapter. Future chapters will probably be shorter than this one, and will usually range from 1000-2000 words.

Love interest hasn’t been decided, but I’m thinking of going with Naruko and potentially a couple of others, idk.
