Survey for Draw Steel July 2024 Packet

UPDATE: This survey is now closed.

Hey folks! It's James here with a quick update to give you the survey for the latest Draw Steel playtest packet.

Please only fill the survey out once. It's long and covers most of the rules in the packet, so please give yourself time to go over all of it. Many of the questions are optional and you can skip whole sections about classes and ancestries and other character or bestiary options if you don't have any feedback to give in those places.

You can feel free to share the survey link with anyone you played the game with who isn't a member of the Patreon.

As a reminder, it's most helpful to us if you tell us what you like and didn't like without proposing a solution to the problems you find with the game. Leave the problem solving to us! It makes filling out the survey and our jobs easier, and it's legally murky for us to read and take your suggestions anyway.

Also, don't worry about typos and grammatical mistakes in the packet. You don't need to report those to us. There is much editing to come!

Thank you so much again! Looking forward to getting you the next version with even more game!

You have until August 27th at noon Pacific US time to get this survey back to us! The packet itself will continue to live after the deadline, so you can keep enjoying and playing the game.

You're welcome. Thanks for bringing it up! -James

A little feedback on the layout/design of the playtest. I don't know if it's just me, but I find the formatting kind of hard to read. I think the main problem is what I think is the H4 heading. For example "Spending Recoveries" on page 8 of the "Draw Steel Rules for Patreon Packet July 2024". The fact that it's the same or very close to the same weight as the normal text and the same color makes it hard for my eyes to pick out of the column of text and so it's hard for my brain to skip down sections. If it were just bolder than the normal text, I think it would help. (or a different color, but I presume it's black and white on purpose to remain printable)

James just confirmed on Twitch that a) they changed the required responses so that it's more lenient, and b) that since many people who are just reading it are responding, we should provide our own responses based on how it reads for things we didn't interact with. Thanks, James!

G

there's 44 questions just on the first page, most with multiple parts.

The packet is bonkers huge for a playtest. I think it would greatly benefit us to know what specifically you want to ask questions about. If its going to be like the last one where there is a question for every class ability and every part of the scenario it will be way too long.

gm_naahz

Well, it is an option to say "I read the material." and nothing else. I would just mention in the text field which parts I didn't do.

How is the game scaling abilities in higher levels? Things as: "Do lvl 10 abilities deal the same damage as lvl 1?"; "How many abilities are we going to have at higher levels?"; "Will old abilities we think are cool become weaker for the sake of new 'shinier' abilties?"

Igor Souza

Wasn't the point of delaying the release of the survey relative to the packet so that people can get a chance to play first, then give feedback? I don't think they want feedback on how it reads?

G

I would give an opinion on how it reads

Mentalic

Yes

Wilzard

Is Draw Steel the official name of the game?

Jordan

Yes and no. On the one hand it doesn't give a strong opinion either way, but on the other it can unnecessarily bring down (or up) a question's average score

G

I would just answer 3 - it's basically a null result.

Guy Fool

What do you want us to do on questions that are forced choice (have a star and are rated 1-5) but didn't apply to our game?
