Chapter 73 [Vault]

[3rd POV] [The next night]

It was the next night…the night of the full moon. And Valkyrie was…terrified. 

She had watched the rest of her family make their ways to the Caves where they hide on the full moons, when the Werewolves are out. She couldn’t do anything to stop them, she knew her brother Henrik, and she knew that he would do anything to get a good look at the Werewolves changing. 

So, she was currently following the two fools quietly, keeping close, her blade clenched tightly in her hands. 

As the two stopped, she breathed deeply as she heard the deep howls of the Werewolves. 

“What the hells are you two doing?!” Val whisper yelled from behind Klaus and Henrik, causing them to jump at the sound. 

“Sister? We were just watching the wolves, that’s all!” Henrik said, but…he didn’t just say it, he borderline yelled it. 

Before Valkyrie could drag the two with her, away. Her face paled as she heard the crack of a treebranch, and low snarls entered her ears. 

“Henrik, behind us, now!” Valkyrie said, as she pulled the younger boy behind her, Klaus’s eyes widening in horror as a pack of Werewolves walked out from the nearby trees…at least 10 of them in total. 

‘...Fuck’ Valkyrie thought as she breathed deeply, as Klaus pulled his own blade free. 

“Henrik, buddy, whatever happens, do NOT move from behind us, okay?” Valkyrie softly said, causing the terrified boy to nod rapidly. 

“Klaus, I’ll take the ones on the left, you take the right. Aim for the head and only the head” Val said, causing Klaus’s eyes to harden as he breathed in deeply, nodding at what his sister said. Now was not the time to hesitate or be scared. 

Gripping the blade, Valkyrie swung her blade as a werewolf sped towards them. The werewolf was mostly using instincts, so, it wasn’t the smartest. With one single swipe, the wolf let out a loud whine, before it’s head flew. 

Klaus grunted slightly as he dug the blade into the side of the werewolf, missing it’s head. But before the wolf could snap at Klaus, Valkyrie stabbed in in the skull, before pulling herself and Klaus out of the way as another barrelled right where they were just standing. 

The werewolf coudn’t shot back up as a blade flew into it’s skull. Valkyrie had carved throwing knives just for this situation, ones sharp enough to fly directly into the skull of her targets, killing them in an instant. 

Looking at the 7 other werewolves, Valkyrie let out a breath as she heard more shuffling behind them. 

“Fuck” Klaus was the one who cursed this time, as yet another group of werewolves came from behind. Surrounding them from every area. 

As they stalked closer, Valkyrie looked to Klaus who looked to her “You ready brother?”

“As ready as I can be, dear sister. And if we don’t survive this…just know you’re the best Twin sister a man can ask for” Klaus replied softly, causing Valkyrie to snort. 

“Don’t get sappy on me, little brother. Now…let us fight, and let Tyr bless us on this day” Valkyrie said with a breath, as she pulled Henrik closer. As this…this would be the true beginning of the day the Mikaelsons fell apart.

[The Next Morning…]

Throughout the village, the people were silently bustling about, acting as if it was any other day. 

There was one family that was not acting as they usually did, and that was Mikaelsons. Why? Because Valkyrie, Klaus, and Henrik hadn’t returned yet, and they were growing worried, especially the children. 

Within Ayana’s hut, Rebekah was softly running her hands through a necklace, before wincing as it burned her, turning to Ayana “Ayana…you burned me” Rebekah said, causing Ayana to smile slightly. 

“That is not yours to touch” Ayana said, before a loud “MOOOTHER!!!!” sounded out. 

“Is-Is that Nikklaus? Something is wrong!” Rebekah said, as she walked to the door, only for her eyes to widen in horror. 

Within Klaus’s arms, was Henrik…a hole through his chest. 

“Henrik!” “MOTHER!” Rebekah and Klaus yelled. 

As they heard the yelling, a horrified Mikaelson family came running. As Esther ran to her youngests body, and Mikael did the same. 

“Wh-What happened?” Esther asked, trying to fight the tears that were threatening to escape. 

“Th-The wolves” Klaus said, tears leaking from his eyes, and covered in the blood of not only Henrik but the wolves that did this to him. 

“I-I’m sorry, I’m so sorry” Klaus whispered as he brought his knees to his chest, tears streaking down his face. 

“We-We must save him, please! There must be a way” Esther said in desperation, Ayana held Henrik’s face in sadness, before speaking. 

“The spirits will not give us a way…Esther” Ayana replied, causing Esther to look at Ayana in horror. 

“Your boy is gone” Ayana softly said, as Esther began to break apart. 

As Esther screamed in sadness and sorrow, soft coughs and groans entered the families ears. As a gasp escaped Rebekah. Esther ignored it, while the rest of the family turned wide eyed. 

Standing there was a bloodied Valkyrie, covered in cuts, blood covering every inch of her body, and cradling her arm. Pants escaped her lips, as tears of rage streaked down her bloodied face. Behind her…behind her she dragged the heads of every werewolf she had killed. Over a dozen of them, all trailed behind her. 

“Val!” Rebekah yelled, as Valkyrie dropped to her knees, before collapsing to the floor. Running to her, Finn lifted her immediately. 

“Esther! Esther! We may not be able to save your son, but we can save her! You must come and you must help!” Ayana said, as she looked to the woman she had practically considered her daughter. 

Coughing softly, Valkyrie softly whispered “I-I killed them. Th cough the ones that did this to him” Before her eyes fluttered close, into unconsciousness. 

“Mother please!” Elijah yelled, as they looked at Esther. 

“Please save her mother!” Kol yelled soon after, with Rebekah, and even Finn yelling for her to help Ayana. 

At these words, Esther breathed in deeply and got to her feet, running to her daughters side. 

She might not have been able to save her beloved son, but she would save her daughter. And then…and then she would save the rest of her family, whether they wanted it…or not.

That’s the end of the chapter!

So the werewolf confrontation and the death of Henrik will be shown in a flashback, similar to how it did in canon. As Valkyrie WILL have some…issues thanks to this. She won’t be perfect, and she certainly won’t be a good person. She will have her demons, just as all Mikaelsons do. Just not as badly lol. 

She is but a human, with immense swordsmanship skills. There was zero chance that she would have gotten out of there unscathed, and she knew it was unlikely that she’d even be able to save Henrik. If she had all her Essences she’d be able to, but she doesn’t have them. 

Henrik was a child more than anything, and children are…foolish. So even if she managed to save him this time, he would have eventually gotten himself killed, one way or another. 

My pup is thankfully okay! But it was quite the scare. I still have to keep an eye on him just to make sure, but I think (hopefully) that he’s okay.
