Chapter 92 [Vault]

Title - Mordred: The Master of Skills and Phantasms | Chapter 2

[3rd POV] [A little more than a month later]

‘This fucking sucks’ An irate Mordred thought, as she sat in a…classroom. Yep, that’s right, she was currently attending high school, aka the bane of her existence, why? Well…

The quest itself was easy and gave a huge reward (which Mordred expected was a tutorial quest or something of the sort, meant to be rewarding before the harder quests come along). 

The quest, while not hard was…incredibly annoying, why? One word…teenagers. The teens at the school were particularly arrogant and seemed to hate that she didn’t talk to others, and was the epitome of a tomboy. Not to mention she was poor (yeah the system fucked her with that one), and was living in a tiny apartment. 

Mordred had been at the school itself for an entire month now, and had not enjoyed a single second of it. Thanks to her “All Kinds of Talents” skill, she had rapidly been learning anything they taught that she didn’t know before, to the point that she was by far the best in all her classes, even if it had only been a month. PE was included in that, as her body was stronger than anyone else in the class. 

The teens at the school were what had made it truly annoying, they were constantly teasing her, and pretty much trying their best to ruin her day, all because she was tomboyish, openly out about being gay, and her not being wealthy. Mordred knew the losers were also that way because she was better than them. 

At the moment she was sitting in the first class of the day, waiting for the class to actually start. Hearing the door open, she looked up to see the teacher walk in, but what she saw next, caused her to breathe in deeply. 

‘Fuck…’

“Class, we have a few new students today. They are from the Xaviers School for Gifted Youngsters. They’ll be here for the next month in a special program. Ah, go ahead and introduce yourselves”

“Hi, I’m Katherine Pryde, but my friends just call me Kitty” A cheerful girl said. This was Kitty Pryde, also known as Shadowcat. 

“I’m Scott” A somewhat annoyed-looking boy said. This, was Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops. 

But it was the last two that REALLY got Mordreds attention, as they were two of her favorite Marvel comics characters, and characters she was not ashamed to admit she found to be incredibly attractive. 

“Oh um, hi, I’m Anna Marie” Anna Marie, also known as Rogue. But it seemed it was the young one, before she became the confident self she did later on. And before she got her iconic suit and puffy hair. 

And finally the host of one of the most powerful entities in the entirety of Marvel comics, if not fiction itself. 

“And I’m Jean Grey, it’s nice to meet you all” The final teen said, a beautiful red head that was secretly housing the Phoenix Force, and was the other character that Mordred thought was really hot, even in her past life. 

“Well, I for one am glad you have you four. Now, please sit wherever is open” The teacher said, while Mordred leaned back, as she noticed a notification flair in front of her.

Mordred had to actively stop herself from breaking out into a coughing fit at the tickets she had gotten. ‘Holy fuck…random rank ST and NT is busted’ Mordred thought, realizing that having it be a random rank was…insane, considering there was only 6 ranks to choose from…

‘Definitely using all those the second I can…when I get home’ Mordred thought, before stopping as she felt someone sit next to her, before looking surprised at the sight of Rogue sitting there. 

Seeing her surprise, Rogue cringed slightly “Sorry, do you not want me to sit here? I can move, there are other-” “Nah it’s fine, just surprised you’d want to see next to the “Lesbo” of the school, but I guess the losers haven’t spread that bit of info to any of you yet” Mordred cut her off, shrugging as she really didn’t mind. Rogue’s power didn’t work against her, afterall. 

“Wow that’s…awful” Rogue said in surprise. 

“Eh, it’s more annoying than anything” Mordred said, before continuing “A bunch of mongrels is what I say they are” Rogue couldn’t help but let out a small giggle at this, before the two began to focus back on class, as the teacher began. 

The rest of the class went smoothly as the two sat next to one another, with Mordred helping Rogue with several problems she didn’t understand. 

By the end of the class, both of them had smiles on their faces as they enjoyed the class. 

“So who’s she?” Kitty asked Rogue as she walked out of the room next to her. 

“Hmm? Her names Mordred, she’s super nice and funny. But the others kids at the school are bullying her or trying to” Rogue replied, causing Kitty to raise an eyebrow. 

“Why though? From what I can tell she was the best in the class” 

“Because she’s lesbian” Rogue replied.  

“Humans and their stupid reasons for bullying others” Scott said with an eyeroll, not too surprised with that. 

“What he said” Kitty said with a nod. 

“You’re being awfully quiet, Jean” Kitty added, causing Jean to breathe. 

“Well it’s just…I couldn’t read her mind, like…at all. Not that I meant to! But it’s…still hard to control” Jean replied with a small sigh. 

“You couldn’t read her mind? But even Professor Xavier can’t block you out completely! Do you think she’s a-she’s like us?” Kitty asked. 

“I’m not sure but…I think she isn’t normal. So either way, we might want to keep an eye on her. Afterall, the professor asked us to come here to not only get used to interacting with more normal humans, but also to find any mutants he might not have seen” Jean replied, causing the three others to nod, deciding that Mordred was someone to keep an eye on.

The girl in question was already in her next class, sitting back as she thought about what just happened. 

‘That was…interesting. Seems Rogue is still in her “Dark, Broody, and slightly emo” phase. But…it’s Jean that is worrying me. From what I can tell…she might not have the Phoenix yet, meaning…the Dark Phoenix might rear it’s head if I don’t do something about that’ Mordred thought, knowing that the Dark Phoenix was a thing, and could potentially be a problem. She just didn’t know what version it could become. 

Would it be the one born from the manipulations of the hellfire club? Or the one created because Charles Xavier sealed it away? Either way, it could become serious bad news, one that she didn’t want to happen.

‘...Definitely worth it’ Mordred thought, knowing that an EX skill was almost always overpowered as hell, and if not overpowered, was incredibly useful no matter what. 

‘I can deal with that in the future though, for now…let’s finish this class’

It was a bit later in the day, and Mordred was sitting at a table at lunch, munching on a burrito she had made at home and saved for now. Only to stop when she felt four people walk towards her. 

“Hi, can we sit here?” Looking up, Mordred raised an eyebrow at the sight of Kitty, Scott, Jean, and Rogue standing there. 

“Sure” Mordred replied, before biting back into her burrito. Eating was one of her most enjoyable times of the day, and she wasn’t about to ruin it. 

“So, you’re Mordred right?” 

“Mmhmm. I’m assuming Anna told you about me?” Mordred said, glancing at the girl who nodded. 

“Yep! So, what’s the deal with them?” Kitty asked, motioning to a table sat at by a bunch of loud kids who were…the definition of a cliche popular kid group. 

“Them? They’re the cliche jocks, rich kids, popular group. They’re also a bunch of stuck up pricks who like bullying others to feel better about themselves” Mordred replied bluntly, causing Jean to let out a cough as she bit into her sandwich, not expecting such a response. 

“Are they really that bad?” Jean asked in surprise.

“They bully kids with down syndrome because they think they look funny” Mordred replied with a deadpan, causing the four of them to frown deeply. 

“Wow so…they’re awful people then, like you said…” Kitty said, now understanding why Mordred doesn’t like them. 

“Are they the ones who harass you for being gay?”

“You mean try to bully me because I like girls? Yeah, doesn’t do much though, they’re about as good at insults as they are at academics, and spoiler alert, they’re in the bottom 1% of the school in that area” Mordred replied, causing the group to crack small smiles, while Kitty openly giggled. 

“Say, do you wanna be friends?” Kitty asked, causing Mordred to raise an eyebrow. 

“You sure? I might give you the lesbian disease” Mordred said in a “Spooky” voice, causing Kitty to nod with a grin. 

“Well then, I don’t see why not. You four seem a lot better than those idiots” Mordred said with a small smile, genuinely liking the idea of being friends with them. As they all seemed nice, and Scott didn’t seem to be with Jean, nor did he seem like the annoying version that so many fanfics had turned him into. 

“Welcome to the friend group, Mordred” Jean said with a smile, causing Mordred to look at her, before speaking. 

“Glad to be here…I think?” Mordred muttered, causing Kitty to grin while Rogue and Jean just smiled slightly. Scott let out a small chuckle at what she said, as he found that she was pretty fun, hell of a lot better than most humans. 

‘This is either a huge mistake or the best choice of my life…’

The next few hours were spent in school, and going to the rest of the school day with Rogue and Jean, as she found that she had the rest of her classes with the two of them. Which she sure as hell was not complaining about. 

She hadn’t been harassed at all today due to their presence, and had the best day she has had in the past month because of them. 

But now, she was at home, sitting as she decided on claiming her rewards. 

“Claim all the ST and NT”

[A Rank - Appreciation of Swords: With just one glance, the user can grasp how to confront ordinary weapons that aren't Noble Phantasms. Due to it being A rank, it's possible to understand armament other than swords and blades. It works as accurate advice for allies, and perceives the weak points of the enemy]

[A+ Rank - Altereactor: A “Mana Conversion Engine” that basically converts all food and calories eaten into magical energy to nourish and revitalize the user]

[A Rank - Magic Resistance: grants protection against magical effects. Differing from the Resistance effect that merely rejects Magical Energy, this ability cancels the spells altogether. Cancel spells of A-Rank or below, no matter what magic it is]

[EX Rank - Collector:  This skill is the "talent" to collect high quality goods—a "luck" that draws rare items into the possession of the Servant. Basically, the user will be incredibly lucky, especially, most notably in finding incredibly rare (and powerful) items]

Reading through the selection of skills and the item, Mordred raised an eyebrow, slightly annoyed but also happy at the same time. 

“The phantasm is…kind of useless. But the magic resistance, appreciation of swords, and Collector are all great. Especially the EX rank skill. And while I’d have preferred something well…more, this is still really strong, especially in a universe like this one. And from what I can tell, it’s basically Golden Rule but for more…rare items, and in a world like this…that means I might be getting some stupid strong items soon” Mordred muttered, grinning slightly as she realized that this skill was…kind of ridiculous in a world like this one. 

Reading through them once more, Mordred spoke out loud, as she leaned back into her chair, ready to take a nap. 

“Go ahead and assimilate”

And yes, I randomly spun for the rank tickets and that’s what she actually got which is…dumb lol. 

Collector is kinda bonkers in Marvel. Magic Resistance at A rank makes her immune to most weaker magic, but won’t do jack shit against someone like Doctor Strange, Dr Doom, Wanda, Ancient One, and like…90% of the other strong magic users in Marvel. 

She has officially met some of the major X-Men! Jean and Rogue being the most important of course (for several reasons). 

She’ll be getting a decent bit of skills and noble phantasms during this time, but it’ll slow down pretty soon. As she sort of needs them with the world she is in.
