The next big Kim documentary calls on YOU.

Hey hey!

Now that we're getting ever nearer to the heat coming off, it's time for me to go back to documentary making. And I have a pretty good idea for the next one...I wanna do a big bustling documentary about the early '90s demoscene! Mostly Amiga and Atari ST-related, but covering a whole range of topics from the leadup to it, what became of the people, connecting it to rave culture and so forth...there's a pretty broad scope for this video.

What's important here is that this is a grassroots topic, and so I wanna get the experiences and thoughts of as many people as I can into the video - from those who were copying disks with their mates to anyone who was playing a part in the scenes themselves. So if you wanna be part of the vid or help us out, send us something! It can be a video of you chatting into the camera, or some audio if you like, or even just some text here if you're not comfy with that.

I'm hoping to release the video in November so there's a good couple of weeks for me to take submissions. Also, if any of you fancy being involved and are also heading to Play Expo Blackpool this weekend, I can film you there if you prefer. One of my missions in Blackpool this weekend is to get as many people there involved as I possibly can :)

Anyhoo, I look forward to seeing what people have got to say :)

All the best,

-Kim

I'm glad it's getting better in regards to making docs again, that was scary. I'm looking forward to the next one and I'd contribute something to it, but I live in America and have had no experience with those demos. I'm looking forward to the documentary though.

Guppies in York, early 90s, guy in the corner with a pallet of floppies and xcopy running of 4-5 copies at once for everyone 😁

I'm not sure if many people remember this but I remember copymeets, where someone would rent out a room in a pub or village hall decked out with rows of trestle tables all hooked up for power. Bring your Amiga/ST, TV, and your disks; set everything up and then wander around with a load of blanks copying other peoples disks, leaving yours for people to come and copy from you. This is where we got the majority of our pirated games back then. There used to be one a month in a pub near where I grew up. If this is interesting I'd be happy to record something for you.
