Elvenfoundry Devlog - Prototype 2


First week of development for Prototype 2 of Elvenfoundry. A lot of changes will come to the game.

The biggest change is that I've decided to ditch the voxel world for a more semi-realistic landscape. A voxel world did not really make sense, since it was not editable anyway.
With a regular landscape we can have better loading times and performance. Better landscape textures and grass quality. The game looks better and the environment fits better with the buildings and characters.

This is just a little preview of the starting zone.

This of course change how the buildings are placed. Now we will have 2 types of buildings; grid based, and free placement buildings.

Most factory buildings (belts, nanobuilders, etc..) will be placed on a grid. The player will build foundations that will serve as a factory floor and the building system will be kept the same.

Most buildings that don't interact with belts will be placed freely, such as sex machines or decorations for your factory.

The user interface has been reworked too, here's a preview:

Now it looks much more clean.

And the last change I want to mention is the character locomotion. I've added a more natural locomotion that includes crouching and sprinting with realistic camera movement. You will be able to try as soon as I have the first build ready.

Can't give an estimate VR release time yet, since this game is way more complex than previous ones.

What is estimate to get VR back? I think I will pause support until next VR release.

Yes, for prototype builds, most assets will be placeholders until I am sure I will not be removing them for the final game. I can't afford to pay for custom assets and then removing them from the game for design purposes, that would be wasting the game budget. Once I have the final design and the game is complete in a prototype state, placeholders will be switched with final game assets. Right now, the custom assets are the characters, which is the most important part of this kind of game. Unlike most 3D games that use Daz characters, Elvenfoundry has custom designed and sculpted characters.
