345 - Conspiracy Files: The Deep-ly Gay State (8/29/19)

Our review of Oliver Stone's 1991 conspiracy thriller classic "JFK": An impeccably made film with an all-time stacked cast that offers a completely ludicrous explanation for the JFK assassination, and thus laid the groundwork for the conspiracy laden world we live in today.

No he wasn't. God this resurgence of JFK-wanted-to-end-the-cold-war is intolerable. As Alex Cockburn wrote "Whether John F. Kennedy was killed by a lone assassin or by a conspiracy has about as much to do with the subsequent contours of American politics as if he had tripped over one of Caroline’s dolls and broken his neck in the White House nursery."

Hampus Bystrom

JFK is a goofy-ass movie, but the basic contours of the whole Colonel X scene are right, and Kennedy HAD undergone an enormous shift after the Bay of Pigs and Missile Crisis, he WAS trying to tear apart the CIA, he WAS (provably) drawing down in Vietnam with the intention to be gone by 1966, and he WAS secretly negotiating back-channel peace talks with Khrushchev and Castro. I know it's probably pointless to say 18 months later, and I gather there's been something of a general step change in modern thought about all this, but the dumbass parts of this movie are the "homosexual thrill killing" shit, not the danger JFK posed to the deep state *after April 1961*

Do "Nixon" for your next movie, Chapo
