Yes and maybe that's why us "old people" like to discuss these shows. We do see the characters backstory and the why they do things. Or at least we make our own story make sense about why and then our fans correct us if we're wrong! Fun to collaborate with our fans!

2025-07-06 13:59:34 +0000 UTCI'll be honest, when I was watching season 1 I couldn't stand Thorfinn. It felt so childish to hold onto revenge for so long. But now when I watch these episodes, Thorfinn's character breaks my heart and I understand him much more. I made the mistake of looking through my own eyes and my own perception when it came to the way he acted and not HIS. He comes from an era where the way of the Viking was very influential. Being a warrior was something to be proud of and praised for. The episode where Thorfinn lost his father, Thorfinn was so proud of his father. Shouting to his father, "Kill them, kill them!" He was so sure his father could easily defeat them and was so engrained in the way of the Vikings and being a warrior that it didn't make sense to him, at all, when Thors instead tossed his sword and refused to kill Askelaad. Offering his life in exchange so that the others could live. Then he had to witness Askelaad order his men to kill Thors with a shower of arrows. Not kill him in an honorable duel. So it enraged and confused him. And he vowed revenge. When you look at Thorfinn you have to remember he's so young. Ever since he was five he's been surrounded by nothing but war and death. He hasn't even had the chance to take a step back and question himself and what he's doing. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, I was wrong to judge him so harshly. I'm 35 years old. I've had the time to understand what's meaningful and what's not. Thorfinn has not.
