A lot of episodes ago he told Winry that he respected her parents because they stuck to their conviction and kept saving lives on both sides of the conflict until the end, even at the cost of their lives, and he meant it. Here in this episode he decides to help Ed and go against Pride because Ed stuck to his conviction to not kill while Pride went against his conviction that humans are inferior to homunculi and tried to take Ed’s body. That’s why when Pride says “he’s going to kill me” Kimblee says “you don’t understand Edward Elric at all”.
