A Peak at Progress 29

(Jesus, it's July? The Comic is finished too?? The last devlog was in May??? )
(Ah, fuck...)

Well, I didn't mean to send an entire 2 months of devlogs to the shadow realm. Kinda spent June trapped in a space-time vortex of pain. So, time to get caught up on the personal, Chitinous Carnival, and my art.

The Personal Health (It was bad, now it's better!)

So, June saw my mental health completely and utterly tank. I've long struggled with depression and anxiety, and last month saw those two winning more days than not. I kinda took a bad gamble on my mental health in 2019, then lost the bet in 2020, and I have been in mental health debt every since.

(But, I got a pretty Master's Degree to show for it!)

However, with the help of my BF, I managed to pull myself together enough to see a psychiatrist and now I have brain pills ᕕ( ᐛ ) ᕗ

Adjusting to them was, very rough. I also got food poisoning when I first started taking them. That basically wiped me out for the rest of June. However, I have finally gotten used my new medication. And, more importantly, I'm not imploding every other day.

(Tho, they kinda fuck with my ability to executive function. But, I'll get adjusted to that with some effort.)

Chitinous Carnival

May saw me added a bit more content to CC. It was officially the first post-intro scenes added to the game. I've got more plans to flesh that area out so I don't need weird edge case handling. Additionally, during June I was (slowly) working on a re-write of Chitinous Carnival's dialogue system.

(I just couldn't handle it anymore. I caved. I'm doing a re-write. I need to gut all the bad decisions I made once and for all.)

Writing scenes has always been a chore in CC. The dialogue system was extremely clunky, manipulating and checking state was extremely clunky, showing backgrounds and position the dialogue box was extremely clunky. However, I have ported all the scenes to the same system I used in Cards of Change. I still have some cleaning up to do, but over all the whole system is a lot cleaner.

Miscellaneous Art

Finally, I'm looking forward to drawing more again. I slowed way down on drawing do to aforementioned mental health trouble. Fortunately, I had all the pages to A Whole New Can of Worm finished ahead-of-time. So, I didn't need to worry about  that at all.

(Seriously, I can see why so many just-in-time furry comics fizzle out. I couldn't imagine trying to draw a page-a-week-every-week. Let alone two-a-week!)

I'd love to say I'm planning the next Big Comic. But, I'm going to be saving my Big Project Energy for CC. Finishing up AWNCOW basically had me working 8 hours-a-day doing lining and coloring. Sadly, I can't let myself be that absent from my workplace slack and issue tracker.

(As much as I'd rather be...)

Anyways, I think that about wraps everything up. Apologies for being somewhat absent June. However, I appreciate your patience. I'm looking forward to the start of a new month after the clusterfuck of June.

Your mental health comes first bro, don't worry about it.

YOO! glad to see your doing ok now! Don't worry about a content schedule, make sure you're good first. I'm glad to see your back in the game though.
