🔧 Devolog 18 – +32k patch, Harry and GUI update

Rest and slow less demanding work

Last week I ended up counting the words we already have for the patch... It's 32k... That is too much, and I still finished one thing or another yesterday that I didn't count xDDD.

I confess that during the rest of last week I was exhausted... I didn't feel like doing anything, so I put TrueClash aside for a bit. However, in those moments when I found myself working on TrueClash without realizing it (because I'm addicted and can't stop 100%), I was doing less demanding things. I've been working on the art, making sprites for new characters. I have the base done for 6 more chars - this means their base sprite (just 1 pose, emotion, cloth), an idea of what the character is like + backstory + possible interactions with the world... I want the beach saga to be something big. I hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew, but let's have faith since I've also been learning a lot!

The patch itself is practically ready. I just need to review the logic/keys, fix some errors that people have been finding and we're done. And I'm going to use this week to explore new techniques for both images and storytelling based on an idea I had (I'll talk just a bit about it below).

Harry's Visual Update

I redid Harry's sprites, in the sense that I increased their quality, replaced old emotions, and added new ones. He is ready for the beach and full of styleeee.

In the one where he has glasses, I tried to make it so you can see behind them, so if I change Harry's expression, you can still see it.

I'm also leaving his full body here as well!

I really enjoy making the outfits, and since I discovered a technique that allows me to make them with the details I want, I've come to enjoy it even more. I feel that it's through them that you can convey the essence of the character, and I absolutely love how Harry turned out. I think each of these outfits is Harry himself xD

However, these remakes are a lot of work, but with this update we finally have the 3 most voted characters in full body with different outfits! ^^

Hope you liked it.

About the GUI

I'm holding myself back from showing you things until they're ready. I have several mockups but not the final product. Sterki has been doing some incredible extra work that leaves me speechless with the quality of it all. (without charging extra - she is crazy!)

However, as I said, I'm holding back. Beyond what I've already mentioned, we've had ideas on how to improve even further what we already have.

One of the things that got updated was the textbox, which in my opinion took another quality leap. And at least I can show you that. These are small upgrades, but I feel they make all the difference ^^

The quick menu buttons have been moved to a different spot and glow with our colors when you hover over them. Making it easier for you to save your game on important moments like this!

The bar has been reshaped into a more elegant form where the character names fit completely without having to shrink the font size. I can even write Diego’s surname into it hehehe (I won’t, it’s just an example :P)

The coins/money you had now have their own cute little display.

And above all, the font has been changed to have a more TrueClash style!

Sterki so far has been amazing, amazing, and very accessible.

Combat Ideas

Over the weekend, I had a unique idea for portraying combat, to make you feel like you're there. And just today I had an idea that doesn't fit at all with the mood most people will be in, but it's part of life — life doesn't stop for us :P. But I digress...

I'm still testing this storytelling method; it was something that occurred to me and is inspired by a specific art style. I've been kind of obsessed with this since yesterday, trying to see if I can pull it off... It'll be more work. I still don't know if I'll use this new storytelling method 100% or if I'll combine it with the combat you've already experienced in the training sessions with Matt or Diego. Maybe I'll try both and then choose which one I like best. It might be work in vain, but at least I'm having fun trying to do it and learning something from it.

And sorry, but for now I won't tell you anything more... At least, not until I have the beginning of it done :P

PS

On a last note, Alex has been asking me for the last month to ask you guys if you wouldn't mind going to our itch.io page and rating our game. He says that can help get TrueClash to more people! Thank you! 💙

I'm looking forward to your feedback, let me know what you think about Harry, the GUI, and the content of the next patch. Without further ado,
