Faraway Paladin Season 2 Episode 4 Live Reaction (FULL)

might be the best episode so far of the season. I really like Ru's addition to this and seeing all the teachings Will got in S1 now being applied to this dwarf

Faraway Paladin Season 2 Episode 4 Live Reaction (FULL)

I personally like it when shows reminds me more of DND. As that means that I can better recommend it to my DND group ^^

I liked various part of this episode. Like how Will is showing that he is scared to fight powerful opponent. And saying that bravery is not fighting against something that you probably can defeat. But also how they did bring up the moral complexity of the gods. As the god of the undead Stagnate is not actually mean or evil. Also I was right last week when I did speculate about Ru being of noble blood

Something of note about Ru and Menel's sparring session that wasn't mentioned in the anime adaptation: Menel is actually faking not feeling hurt from the moment Ru started attack more strongly (the part where we saw Menel block several hits in a row with his shield and then got hit in the stomach). This is also the reason he prefers to eat in a different location after the spar. Because he doesn't want Ru to see him(Menel) feeling hurt and see the several big bruises he got. Ru is around this time(the spar and the grappling session we saw before) stated in Will's thoughts to actually have a LOT of natural raw strength. The problem is that Ru is too kind and is afraid of hurting people, and as a result subconsciously holds back by a huge amount. THIS is the main reason why Menel handles a lot of the sparring with Ru before Ru gets used to it. Because unlike Will, Menel's personality makes it easier for him to force Ru in a corner (psychologically during sparring) to force Ru to use his real strength. And then Menel acts as though he's fine even though it actually hurts like hell.

Also, speaking of height for species, the Halflings in Faraway Paladin (such as Robina/Bee) are closer to the halflings from DnD than from Hobbits(lotr). The author of Faraway Paladin and the author of Goblin Slayer seem to both be using DnD height for the species in their stories. For example, the Dwarf Shaman in Goblin Slayer is 150 cm(4.92126ft), but he appears much shorter because the Elf Archer is 160 cm (5.2ft)(short for an elf even within the series) and Goblin Slayer is 180 cm (5.9ft). I don't remember if we ever got official heights in the Faraway Paladin novels(and the wiki doesn't have them regardless), but I do recall Will not being that tall(but still at least average or a little above average), Reystov being very tall, Menel being short for an elf and Ru being tall for a dwarf. As for the dwarves in lord of the ring, they were also around this height. It's just that most of the characters around them were either shorter than them(hobbits) or humans and elves that were taller than the average.

Some versions of Dwarves are a bit shorter, but this is still within the normal height range of dwarves (such as in D&D). With them being between 4 and 5 feet of height. About 4ft for the short ones and up to 4ft and a few inches for the average, and a bit higher than that for the tall ones. They don't go only up to the waist, that's hobbits in lotr. Ru is also noted in the novel to be pretty tall for a dwarf. Will is only about average height for a human male I think, and Menel is pretty short as an elf(or rather half-elf, but maybe that's part of the reason). Reystov on the other hand is tall for a human male. It doesn't help that the show uses a lot of angles to make the height difference appear less (to keep human and dwarves in the frame together).
