EDIT: massive thank you to everyone who commented on her and on discord - I think we got it diagnosed!
I'm pretty sure it's the wire. tried a different batch (after much digging) and the difference between wired and direct seems negligable. as a bonus, managed to dig out some 5mm LEDs, and they fit perfectly, making the whole thing brighter and better!
Gonna rig the whole thing up and see how it goes, fingers crossed!

So LED streetlights seem to have a fatal flaw. I can make them look realistic, or I can make them bright enough. The wiring from the bottom of the piece to the top seems to be too much resistance for the diddy 3v coin batteries we need to use to get them to fit...
Unless one of you guys has a better knowledge of electronics than me and can figure out a way for me to reduce the resistance on the wire, it's all we can do LED wise, without using a much bigger battery. As far as I know...

2021-09-30 14:13:38 +0000 UTCThis is something I was going to toy with as well when I got my space set up to start making terrain again. The thought I had was making an angled cut along the bottom of the tiles. Nothing super dramatic, but when two tiles were together, it would be a decent size to run multiple wires from different areas of the setup. Plug them into a breadboard powered by rechargeable 18650 batteries. Those batteries would eliminate most if not all power drop before the resistor that feeds into the LED. Each asset would have a long wire to make it as modular as possible and allow them to be freely placed. But I think it’d be worth it I can send some design drawings after I get off work if you’d like.
