Another Update

I hope everyone's having a good holiday season so far. I've managed to make a little time outside of my cartoon to finish up Christmas stuff early so I can indeed "get back to it."

Lots of inbetweens and new initial frames for a couple of very high-action scenes are coming up; the most complex and active scene I will have ever animated. 

In short, James gets into an easy fight with a few Venomian soldiers on a train, and just when things start to look up...

I've been taking some lessons on the weekends from one of the guys I hire for occasional 3d work on ref models and backdrops for the cartoon (he's currently modeling some things for James's Arwing) , and am getting better acquainted with zBrush and Maya. This will make things a lot easier on me for stuff like designing backdrops and settings for scenes, so I won't have to redraw and redesign them every time the camera angle changes. Animating the Arwings (and other spacecraft) will be a cinch compared to how I did it in the first episode.

Yes, when I finish some good models and poses of the characters, they will be available for download as 3d printables for patrons.

Thank you all again for your patience. I know this episode is taking a lot longer than the first did, but I can promise you that I'm putting in so, so much more detail, writing, and animation. I just want this to look, sound, and feel as if it were my best.

Great things take time!

I've noticed in a lot of modern cartoons the reliance/use on 3D elements for backgrounds or large, complicated machinery. It used to stand out so bad, but within the last... I don't know, maybe 5 years? I feel like it's starting to become indistinguishable with the way the artists are blending it together with 3D/2D elements. I was watching Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure yesterday when it occurred to me I literally couldn't tell the difference between the grass's 2D/3D components. I can't imagine what a tremendous amount of time it's going to save -- not to mention the amount of attention that needs to be devoted to continuity for angle changes -- y'know, like... wordwordwordsblahblah All I know is, every time I check progress on this episode, the news just gets better and better. I'm pretty stoked that you're breaking into the 3D realm, too. It's gonna add a ton.
