Beach Assignment Artemessa

Nathan the Absol (SaintAbsol) accommodates the warrior he serves, Artemessa the Flaaffy, for some time at the beach like May Sa the Mightyena and Val Sky’za the Sky Form Shaymin have before. It would seem the fairly reclusive Flaaffy is starting to open up more to be in the public eye after meeting her perverted servant. =w=

Arg, this pose and scene works so well. Very happy Saint asked me to finish this the way it was. @.@ This was also pretty encouraging as a digital piece due to its simplicity to get a good feel of the shading process.

This picture also utilized a difference trick in making the solid flat colors prior to shading. I vectored the lighthouse in Adobe Illustrator CS5 and imported it on to the picture and used paint bucket to fill it in.

It has been in the back of my mind if I should vector the lineart and then use the paint bucket tool to fill them in. As is, when I paint in the flats, I usually have to do two passes of them, one to get the base down and then a second to polish it to be ready for the shading. Because of how shading process works, the flats need to be exactly the right shape to work.

I may experiment more with it in the future.
