Rise: Origin

Rise: Origin

Commissioned by Althero.

Wordcount: 1147

Your elders tell you of the days Before, when humans like yourself were many, and Beasts did not claim all of the land. They have no reason to lie to you, but you cannot believe them.

How can beings as weak as humans have ever laid claim to the whole of the Earth?

Heaven holds hosts of Angels led by a God amongst gods. Hell teems with Demons and Devils who wield powers which can shatter continents. The Fallen roam the skies in cities where humans are devoted vassals.

Then, of course, there are the Tribes.

The Mao.

The Tuzi.

The Gou.

You are of the Tuzi because they saw worth in you, because they gave mercy to your dying parents, and took you in. While your parents could barely save you, the Tuzi have saved many, and guard many humans as they travel across the remains of the Jade Empire.

There are many monsters out there that humanity needs to be protected from.

Corpse Eaters, Blood Drinkers, and other things which can rip apart a man with ease prowl through the night, which only Warriors of the Tuzi can fight, while their human vassals are protected and safeguarded.

There is no reason for them to lie, but you simply can’t believe their words.

Still, you will not spit upon the grace that you have been granted.

You have been given the right to undertake a Yimin to become a part of the Tuzi instead of a mere vassal who is protected.

You are different from your fellow humans. The Tuzi Elders saw this. They grasped your potential, raised you as Tuzi, and allowed you to grow strong and skilled. Strong and skilled enough to brave the Wastes by you own merit, while you sought out your destiny and returned to Tribe with something that proved your Worth.

However, what can a human do outside of the Tribe?

Humanity survives under the protection of the strong. Those with innate strength and magic in every individual of their people are inherently greater than humanity and they are many across all of the world. You cannot imagine how humanity once had superpowers which were capable of wiping out all life around the world. It is a mystery to you that raises a multitude of questions to the forefront of your mind.

You’re sure that Elders are simply being kind and trying to raise your spirits for the coming trials.

The Yimin is a dangerous journey, even for a Tuzi. Many leave the Tribe every year, but few ever return. You understand that some abandon the chance to be deemed Tuzi and seek out their lives elsewhere, but you’re sure that many raised by the Tuzi would rather die than suffer such a fate, even though those who have left the Tribe are treated merely as outsiders and nothing less.

If your betters die upon the Yimin, of course the Elders would do their utmost to curtail your worries and shore up your confidence… perhaps to the point of making larger of humanity, of your people, than what they truly are.

Nevertheless, your Yimin lies ahead of you and you must choose your sponsor.

Though, in actuality, it is merely a ritual.

You would not be allowed to endanger your life upon a Yimin if you were not on the path of the Warrior.

[Difficult is Locked due to Prologue]

[X] True Hero.

(Class Choice Locked due to Prologue)

[X] The Warrior: The Tuzi warriors are the noblest amongst all the Tribes. While the Mao and the Gou treat their vassals with respect, no other Tribe takes it upon themselves to only allow those of the Tribe to fight. For many civilizations it would be crazed to cut off the majority of the population from military service, but the average Tuzi Warrior can take on Beasts… and the elite can take on gods. Of Tuzi Warriors only those who can kill gods are remembered. Anything less is merely what is expected. [Advanced Class: Overlord.]

-You start with Tuzi Tribal Armor (+25 to Melee and Sage Martial Arts), +150 to allocate amongst Melee and Sage Martial Arts Skills, and a piece of equipment that reflects your strongest Melee or Unarmed Skill.  You also have access to Mao and Gou Scrolls which allow you to train in their Sage Martial Arts up to 50.

Bonus to: Melee, Forging, Explosives

Deductions to: Culture, Circuitry, Empathy.

Social Advantages: + 1 to Authority Figures

Social Disadvantages: -1 to Non-Authority Figures.

Perk: Indomitable: Your constitution is profound. You somehow recuperate from anything short of mortal wounds overnight. You are scarred, yes, but you live to fight on. Something tells you this ability will only grow more powerful as you grow in strength. Increases Melee Cap by 50. Minor Wounds Ignored. Increased Regeneration as you level up.

-Chosen: Of all the humans the Tuzi keeps safe, you have been chosen for your attributes and abilities to have the chance to be Tuzi. The reason for this is unclear to you, but the Tribe has nonetheless invested in you the time and resources they would normally only spare for those born into the Tribe. If anything, you wish to finish your Yimin and become Tuzi simply to repay them for everything you’ve been given, which could’ve been spared for someone who is truly Tuzi. (Start with 300 Skill Points. 2 Horses and 2 weeks of supplies granted to you. 1 Unit of Wealth Granted.)

Comments

I'll explain more when it gets published in the thread. This deserves a whole massive Q&A session in and of itself. I've answered some in Discord, but I'd like to take the time to answer questions about in the actual Rise thread.

Sage_Of_Eyes

Ahh so a combination of the Tuzi not being on the brink of extinction and honestly needing the points to have any hope of surviving the hellhole that was OG Rise

D Heart

why would we have been more powerful at the start if we go fucked in the last quest?

DarknessSmiles

So Song gets skill points at the start if there wasn't CORE? wtf?

Binge Reader

No, just what would've happened if CORE failed everything and the prologue went as I expected.

Sage_Of_Eyes

Wait, what??? Is this a reset that we are actually voting on???
